Mk1 Fiesta 1.1L - even they go for relatively daft cash now.
XR4i - took in px for a mk3 Escort
Rover 220 Coupe with a T16 turbo lump. Silly fast. Loved it

I have had quite a few hot hatches throughout my younger years but the one I wish I kept (well I couldn't as I wrote it off) was my Mk2 Fiesta XR2. Either that or my Mini Clubman 1275GT.

Ah man, so many 🙁

• S1 106 Rallye – sold it for less than £1k.
• Clio Williams – sold to a guy starting a collection, was mint and under 100k miles, that was about 7 years ago, I can see it's done less than 1k miles since and is worth 5x as much
• Racing Puma – another modern collectible gone too early
• Lupo GTI – as above but to a lesser extent
• Z4M Coupe – financially ruined me at the time, another modern classic now

Sigh. Probably regret the Williams the most, absolutely should have kept it.

Fiat strada 65 cl
R100GS, black and yellow, chopped in for a Honda firestorm which was quite a nice bike.
Triumph Bonneville T100 centenary replaced by a k1100lt which was the worst bike I ever owned by a long way 🙁
Went back and bought a kmx200 for my fiftieth, that was the first bike I ever owned aged 25, it was awful 🙂

2003 Triumph Speed Triple. I've had 7 bikes since and none of them could/can match it. I'm thinking of trying to find another minter.

A lot of 50s and 60s bikes as I started riding on the road in 68 and obviously in farmers' fields earlier than that. Of the cars only the Mexico Mk1 stands out for monetary reasons but the Mk1 Scirocco GTi and the 72 VW Transporter were great fun.
I'll try to work out what bikes I had but I was probably shifting them a dozen times a year but never had more than one on the road and two in bits at any one time.
Bliss. Student days.
A mate had 2 stripped down bikes in his hall of residence at City University. No room in wardrobe or drawers for clothss as they were full of wheels, frames and engines.

Nothing myself but I need to show this thread to my dad, he keeps pondering selling his 993c4 Cab. and a pristine ‘75 MGb.
Best to keep them I think.

Mk 1 Golf Gti - had 100k on the clock and I had two small children so it had to go. Since then I've only had dull cars.

3 yes 3 Moto Morini 500 bikes, lovely bikes suited me to the ground but my head got turned by a big guzzi, easily tripled in value since I sold them 😕

Not me, but my dad. Sold when skint in the mid 1970s to pay rent. All I can remember of it is some huge wire wheels and a gigantic chassis in red oxide primer.
He tells me it was sold for £400 to a film company who drove it off a cliff.

Renault 5 Gordini Turbo. Let’s put a 1.4 Turbocharged engine in a normal Renault 5 and put it in the hands of a 19 year old said the man from marketing with a Gallic shrug….what could go wrong?

At least the turbo had an attempt at sorting the chassis and handling, though my mate always struggled to get his round a roundabout 🤣

1984 VW Jetta GTi 16v. It had a Recaro interior. Quick, refined and comfortable. I sold it to buy a Citroen 309XS. No I don’t know why either

The only vehicle I've sold that hasn't gone to the scrap yard was a Mazda 323f.

Bought it as a local commuter, 13 years old, one female owner from new, all invoices in date order in a file, nothing, but nothing wrong with it.
Ran it for 18months, 12k miles, it cost me one service and a tyre at MOT.
Sold it for £100 more than we paid for it.

Sold when we moved to Scotland and didn't need a second car.

Like this.

72 vw type 2 dormobile conversion - RRA 911K put it in for resto but house and babies it had to go. Was neptune blue but now brown when I last checked.
Scirocco GT2 - sold to a bloke at work for £400
Hilux Surf - couldn't afford the fuel costs back then so even less likely now.

Honda CB250RS - nostalgia value only 1st bike
RD350 YPVS FN2 - obviously
TRX 850 - just a great bike
BMW Funduro - practical commuter

Space was an issue at the time, now have a bit of space but no money. The irony

My first car, a 1984 Mini 1000 City. Sold it even when I didn't have to, regretted it the next week.

My first new car, a 54 plate Ka. Stupidly traded it in for a Fiesta that turned out to be an absolute dog.

Saab 9000 Carlsson that Abbott Racing had modified. I loved that car. Absolute bloody money pit though (6000 miles from a set of front tyres...)

All of them. I’ve not owned many as had company cars, but:

I had to sell my R53 Cooper S as we had a dog and a child in the way.

I swapped my 218VVC Rover Tomcat for a Mk2 MR2 - which I regretted initially - then sold the MR2 to a former colleague for £1k. Probably worth 10k now, it was a mint import.

I regret my 309Gti nearly killing and killing itself due to a moron who didn’t dip his lights on Christmas Eve 2000.

K492RJC

1993 mini british open classic. Didnt really sell it, an old mate kinda absorbed it and then it rotted away in a barn.

Bought from minis bristol minis and driven back up to my house glasgow area.

British Racing Green, leather and tweed interior, full sunroof and walnut dashboard. 1.3 engine with a full stage 1 kit and loads of chrome additions.

Prob would have been worth 12k now.

Suzuki RGV250M - 30 years old now but IMO still look fantastic
Honda Civic TypeR EP3. Bought it when it was 12 months old, ran it for four years and apart from tyres and petrol (lots of) not a thing was spent on it. Sold it in an immaculate condition for 5k. Regretted it ever since 😢

The one I miss the most, sold it too hastily due to job loss. I'd only just got the suspension on it sorted too. Tempted to get another GTI6 as prices are on the up now

Honda CRV, was really fuel thirsty and about as fast as a concrete block but I miss it. Great off road even though it wasn't a proper 4wd, we live high up, lots of snow and I build mountain bike trails so had it all around Gisburn Forest. Cleaned up really well inside and out when covered in mud and was the most reliable car I've ever owned.

Got a company car and it was just sat on the drive going slowly mouldy cost £1k a year so sold it (wbac).

Never missed another car in the same way.

Racing Puma – another modern collectible gone too early

I had to sell my Puma 1.7 Zetec, got made redundant and subsequent job didn’t pay enough to cover the running costs at the time. Broke my heart to get rid of it, I loved that little car. 😢
If the money was available, I’d be after a Racing Puma, and have a ground-up, down to bare metal rebuild done.

Renault 5 GTX. Let’s put a 1.7 engine in a normal Renault 5 said the man from marketing with a Gallic shrug….what could go wrong?

Were either of those the one with the massive turbo that had a lag of about about two days? A mate of mine had a GT right up until he found himself upside-down in a field rotating quietly to himself because he'd stood hard on the loud pedal without first filling in the required paperwork. Stupid, stupid machines and I'd kill to have a play in one.

Mk1 Fiesta 1.1L – even they go for relatively daft cash now.

Really?

Exactly my first car, in Arizona Gold. I have fond memories because, well, it was my first car and I was a teenager, and because it was relatively quick as rust weighs nowt. Not wholly convinced I'd want another one today, mind.

93 Vauxhall Cavalier, dull but cheap

No I wouldn’t want them back.

On the other hand, I'd have a mid-90s Cav in a heartbeat. I had a 91-plate (and several more subsequently) and I felt 'connected' to it whilst driving like nothing else I've ever owned, it felt like an extension of my body.

Loved loved loved that motor. Dull? You're just not trying, back when I was young and stupid I used to leave roundabouts sideways in a 1.6. Shitloads of fun and utterly predictable. And for its time, so very pretty.

Actually,

I'm not sure that I should have kept it, but that's the one I regret selling. I mean, she was borderline rotten when I sold it and the lad I sold it to (a good friend's brother) basically ran what was left of her into the ground, there was little to keep. But I still remember first seeing her for sale in the garage and it was love at first sight. It's the only car I've owned that I've given name to other than for comedy reasons.

Man, that's absolutely pathetic, isn't it. (-:

VW Polo G40.

G40

A rare small supercharged Q car that packed a serious punch (easily tuned) for it's displacement. The brakes were dangerously under powered though!

Bought mine off Jet from Gladiators........not really but she did have one.

Yamaha RD350 YPVS F2
Yamaha RD500 YPVs
Yamaha TZR 250 v-twin
Honda VTR 1000 SP1
Husqvarna SMR 570

I'd buy them all again if I had the money.

Were either of those the one with the massive turbo that had a lag of about about two days?

The GTX wasn't a turbo and not sure what the Gordini turbo was like but I had a mk 2 GT Turbo in 1989 and the lag was the same as most turbo cars those days. Turbo starts to come in at around 2500 and then builds to 4,000 where it flies for 1,500.
I had the spring changed in the actuator so had 160BHP instead of the 120 and it felt ridiculously fast at the time but would probably be slow now compared to most off the shelf hot hatches although it was almost half the weight.

As for cars I regret selling;
Escort MKII RS2000 custom
Rover P6

Also owned between 88 - 90 and both mint. I typically changed car about every 3 months between 88 and 91 as I landed a well paid job and was still living at home until 21 but this are the only 2 I would want back.

Why yes, yes it was.

That was all part of the fun. The thrill was in the anticipation. Like that nasa countdown but longer

My 91 mini cooper. 1275, big su carb, stage 1 tune. 12" mini lites. Loved that car. At the time I was doing too much motorway miles and couldn't afford to keep it and buy another car.

Replaced it with a rover 216. Which turned out awful.

The mini now is probably worth 10 times what I sold it for.

BSA A65 Thunderbolt

1971 Dodge Polara Station wagon
1970 Plymouth Satellite (had tears in my eyes when I sold that)
Loads of Lambrettas and Vespas, I'd buy every one back if I could.

I'll get another late 60's yank when I get my pension lump sum (next 2 years), my missus will have the hump though!
I won't bother with another Lammy as they are ridiculous money to buy now, I'd have one if they were reasonable.

Mk3 Escort XR3 (non injection) my first car at 19 years old

+1 I had a black one, a lucky garage find which I appreciated less at the time, but paid £1650 and it was in mint condition. Loved that car.

Also my E46 330i.
