Its simple enough.
How exactly are the pro group “compromising”?
What are they giving up since thats what compromising is all about.

So if I understand your position correctly, the most important thing is to be able to use insulting and derogatory terms to describe someone with a different view to yours, rather than discuss in a grown up manner, or just accept that their views make no difference to your day to day life?

If Charlie goes arse over tit wearing a showy dressing gown or Archbishop Thingy drops the ceremonial mug of oil, presumably that will be the fault of ‘wokes’ or similar?

Surely the fact that other religions are going to be involved and reflected already has certain sections choking on their anti-woke cornflakes.

On the monarchy scale of 1-10 where 1 = storm the palace now and 10 = fwapping myself into a catatonic state while camped out on the Mall in a RWB plastic bowler hat, I'm about a 4 - mildly against. But I'll be looking in because I like the tradition, ceremony, and pageantry. In the same way as I'm not religious but I like knowing about eg: the Child Jesus procession around Prague.

I hope you have a great day Monkeyboyjc.

And the random collection of letters passing as an individual jhinxwyrf or whatever - I've seen their posts from time to time and not sure they're not a troll.

One final point but I have to make it. The official dish is a spinach and tarragon quiche? WTAF. 70 years on, a coronation chicken sandwich is still a joy, I had a plateful at a funeral wake on Weds and it made the funeral something to look forward to!

We won't be looking forward to a spinach quiche in 70 hours time, let alone 70 years. #notmyquiche indeed.

What is there to compromise about? No one is forcing you to have any involvement in todays events anymore than people who hate football are forced to participate or care about the world cup. If it's the money being spent that annoys you then time to learn to live with fact not everything is done for your benefit, loads of money is spent everyday on things I don't like, it's democracy.

On theotherjonv's scale I'm a five ramping to an eight when people like you get so dictatorial about what others can and can't do.

If it's not for you go ride your bike, you do have a bike?

What a load of miserable people on here.
I have bunting up (shoot me now).
The ceremony, pageantry and mostly the history is something I'm interested in.
I like Charlie. He does a lot for the environment and was way ahead of his time.
His Princes trust charity has given so many underprivileged youngsters a step up on a ladder to success.

Good luck to the new King. It won't be long before William is King and possibly George will NOT end up as Monarch and Royalty will be a thing of the past. Let's hope we don't get an idiot such as Boris voted Head of State.

Pre-emptive arrests too, seemingly no actual crime committed.

Well they warned everyone they were going full on Putins Police in their tweet a couple of days ago.

Absolutely disgusting.

I see that they have backed down on the original pledge. At least that's something.

I’ve mixed feelings today. I’m not an angry anti monarchist but do see it as much more irrelevant, and with a part Caribbean family history it’s privelege and racism runs a bit deep. I do feel it’s a sense of occasion the kids might only see one (perhaps twice) and therefore it should be on the telly.

Yet at the same time the cost and privelege of it all flying in the face of those struggling just further reminds us of the widening monarchal and political divides in this country especially over the last few years of blantant political embezzlement vs public suffering.

Edit: Sky News have a Message feed and some of the psychophantic crowing is quite sickening. People don’t see those arrests and the state control coming through as Charles responsibility which it absolutely is.

Funny how some folk equate the energy to challenge tradition and make the world better as being miserable.

I was always fairly neutral on the monarchy. I definitely think the UK should be a republic, but it's so far down the list of things I care about it barely registers. It's something to look at once everything else is fixed.

However, the recent increase in arrests is tipping me into full blown anti-monarchist. If I was anywhere near London I'd be down there seeing if I could get myself arrested.

I respect anyone who has done enough good work in the community to be invited. I don't respect their decision to attend. Not when their actions are indirectly supporting the unlawful arrest and intimidation of innocent people.

Law enforcement there have raided a large van and removed all the possibly thousands of 'Not My King' placards from it. People had paid for these.

I like Charlie. He does a lot for the environment and was way ahead of his time.
His Princes trust charity has given so many underprivileged youngsters a step up on a ladder to success.

that is all true; his predecessor and her husband also had many positive qualities which helped people overlook the absurdity of the system of an inherited head of state.  You could probably say the same about Bill Gates, but nobody is scrambling to make him a head of state, and certainly not to assume that his kids would be the natural successor if he did.

It won’t be long before William is King

possibly 20 years or more… in countries with elected heads of state that would be considered a very long time.

. Let’s hope we don’t get an idiot such as Boris voted Head of State.

of the 60 million people in the U.K. Borris would be in my bottom 10% but I would rather people have the right to choose and then unelect them after 5 years than be stuck with inheritance as a means of selection.  You can still have pomp and ceremony with an elected HoS - just look at the U.S. inauguration!   That would be a more frequent opportunity to get your bunting out.

if Charles is the best candidate for the job - why not stand for election, heck I’d even be content for him to be unopposed for the first 5 years!  If he was really interested in the rights of “his subjects” he’d see the absurdity of royalty himself and have the balls to call it out.  If he can’t, either he is stupid (which doesn’t seem to be the case) or selfish.

FYI - I’ve not seen any bunting, heard of any street parties  etc in this area.  I only know of one family who is even planning to watch it.  A number of people I spoke to this week didn’t even realise it was on Sat (they assumed it was on the BH).

What a load of miserable people on here.

do you say that to Muslims, Jews, Sikhs, Buddhists etc who don’t join in celebrating Christmas the way you do?  Projecting your view of what, how and when people should celebrate is, well, a little bit dictatorial.  Objecting to people who won’t join your party, because they’ve made a considered decision about what it symbolises seems even more so.

“out of curiosity where is the compromise on the royalists side in this scenario?”

Not dishing out personal abuse at those with different opinions

No need for personal abuse when the cops can be relied on to arrest those with opposing views.

Kneelers ... I feel sorry for them. I have some friends without a pot to piss in, but they worship that lot to the hilt. I don't get it!

They secretly hate plebs like us 🙁

The monarchy (monarchies) is obsolete, they have no challengers to the throne, unless Wales and Scotland are the only possible threats.

We want our land back and share the wealth.

Can't argue with that. In fact you could argue for that without taking an abolitionists position.

Blimey, the moderation on stw is getting a bit heavy-handed. I'm sure there is no need to call the cops.

The miserable comment was for a 'few on here', not for the 'whole wide world'. Yes I do celebrate Christmas but am not religious, yes I am an environmentalist but still drive a 'beemer'. No one is perfect.
The bunting is for the whole of my road every other house has it. There is a massive party in our small town tomorrow bringing many people together, I hope they all enjoy themselves.

If everyone on this thread is so against the Monarchy, write to your MP, get a vote sorted and have your say.

Yes I absolutely think it's disgusting that peaceful protesters have been arrested.

Think you’ll find that the god stuff is integral, seeing as how it’s the only justification for jug ears to be given the top job.

its just lip service, they’ve no intention of serving the people in their faith, having the humility of Jesus, not recognising platitudes etc etc as is read out. Can’t see Jesus approving of an upspecced gold carriage with air con whilst Mrs Jones 72 down the road can only dream of her mackerel tea suddenly multiplying in to two.

It's not one of those peasant quiches you get in the supermarket for £2 that feeds 6*. I'm confident this will be the finest quiche you would ever eat. I like a good quiche!

I believe that the correct terminology is "God Save the King!"

"Up the monarchy" sounds like something which Sidney Ruff-Diamond might say in Carry On Up The Khyber.

Extinction rebellion would have those grey barriers over in seconds.
Banning the right to peaceful protest to protect the feelings of the elite, that is not acceptable. Break the law, cause a disturbance, riot, throw smoke grenades, yes remove from the area under arrest, then de-arrest and let them go with a warning. I wonder what would happen if you held up a blank A2 piece of paper?

5 months sober for him. Puts a lot of the STW bickering into perspective.

I’m sure Harry would hug you for your support for your friend. His support for veteran causes seems wholly genuine, with real empathy and understanding. Good on you.

Your admirable efforts won’t silence dissent about the King’s big day and it’s place in our society though.

Grown up manner? You mean strawman, misrepresent and come out with passive aggressive insults.
Which I suspect is what happened the previous time you are whining about before people got irritated with it and got more pointed with you.
