...apart from no Christmas music on the radio at work is...

...absolutely no idea so I'm calling on the STM to come up with some sensibly priced ideas for the man that doesn't have everything but doesn't know what he needs.

I don't drink alcohol (except on holiday) and I hate coffee.

I do love hand tools though, bike, car or DIY.

If you've not already got one - a multi-tool is the tool you never knew you needed! 🙂

And this is a genuine bargain in Black Friday sales...

Some decent quality bike tools, not hex keys but specific tools you may not have or use often - bearing press set with sliding hammer, mech hanger alignment tool, a proper workshop chain tool, truing stand, star nut setting tool, brake pad spreader, rotor truing tool etc

I'd second that, they are very versatile for a host of jobs like trimming the bottom of a door while it's in situ, because you forgot the new floor is higher and now it's laid ...  or a hole in the middle of a plasterboard wall to route a new wire/pipe/spyhole.

Or saw a plank, trim a tree even.

One thing to note though is the cheaper ones can be extremely loud, though good ones can be 80-85 which is still loud, but not dangerously.

(from Ai)

" Oscillating multi-tools can be loud, with some tests finding noise generation can range up to 104 dB(A) depending on the material and application. It is highly recommended to wear appropriate hearing protection when operating these tools to prevent hearing damage "

That is a good price, makes me wish I didn't already have a multitool...

I've also got the Knipex pliers wrench and all the bike tools mentioned so far.

If you have a garden/do outside stuff I've been amazed at how good a Silky pruning saw is!
(Used it to cut down the Xmas tree today)

Why?

You can even see in the video the ergonomics are meaning the driver is rarely on axis with the screw or bolt. It doesn't do anything that spurcycles tool does andd you still have to carry all the bits.

And its massive to carry around just incase you need a ratcheting tool ie the times you will probably have a better supply of tools.

There is always Knipex

They do make very robust tools. I’ve got a very hefty pair of Knipex pliers, that someone had left in the boot of a car that came in for refurbishment. I nabbed those as soon as I spotted them, they’ve seen some hard usage, but they’re perfectly serviceable. If they’d been mine, I’d have been fuming at leaving them behind. They were under the boot board, down by the side of the spare wheel, so not obvious.

Because I think it is a beautiful tool and I actually have a use for it installing kit in racks and so on.  I would not use it for bike maintenance.

I have a perfectly good ratchet screwdriver and so could not justify buying one of these myself but I would be delighted if I were given it as a gift. That Spurcycle tool does not appeal to me but someone likes it so I am not going to criticise it.

Knipex Pliers 150

£40 with coupon until 02.12.26

Is 150 the optimal size?

Better than that, there’s official merchandise where you can get a proper away kit shirt, with embroidered logo!
None of your cheap Chinese knockoffs! 😎

Once Christmas is out of the way, I’m getting one of those!

Fair enough. I have a strong suspicion it will be a tool that looks good on the shelf after a few uses though.

Its only the cranked arm i object to. If that went straight or let you set it i would be much more interested. Except the topeak rocket ratchet thing i have is still going strong and that is tiny!

Do they have similar discussions on Mums net but just about knitting needles and stuff instead of tools?

If you don't have one already, every man needs a Leatherman. I usually have one somewhere about my person and you don't realise how much you use it until you don't have it.

If you want the original old school best, a Charge+ tti

If you want more convenient tool access and best all-rounder, the newer player on the block is the Arc

Yup, just express interest in this thread and they'll be delivered by Xmas (just don't ask which Xmas);

While we are on the Wera theme. Got this in a free Wera advent calendar from a supplier, there were a couple of other bits in there - Wera salt and pepper shakers and bottle opener.

I think the calendar retails at £69 so the bit set on it's own should be a bit less
