It's like they thought "Hey Alien vs Predator was awful, let's see if we can make something even worse".
How can such a promising concept with classic source material produce two such terrible films?
Not seen either. The irony is that Dark Horse Comics did an Alien v Predator comic which was excellent. All they had to do was make a film using the same story. In fact the latest Predator film came very close to the same premise, kidnapping selected humans as prey for the Predators as a ritual to test their 'manhood'. In the comic it was a human settled planet which the Predators seeded with eggs from a captured Alien queen so they could hunt the Aliens as part of a similar ritual. The second Predator film in New York had an Alien skull as a trophy in the space ship.
Aye I watched it and it was rubbish.
Predators was ok but had to be cut up so badly to make it a shorter a movie=directors cut should be better.
AVP was ok

$40 mill budget too.

AvP and Predators are good IMHO - nothing wrong with B movies. The original predator was a B movie, albeit one that was made of awesome.
AvP -R was atrocious though. Absolute bottom of the barrel stuff. Amazed to hear that it's budget was so high.
I wouldn't say the concept was 'promising' tbh with you. It's a bit ridiculous even in the context of a SF film. I think Rodriguez said that about the latest one, that it was an effort to get things back on track.

The original Predator film was a United Artists film, distributed by 20th century Fox with a £20million budget and grossed £100million (25 years ago remember), Arnie was a major star by that time. It very definitely was not a B Movie.
It's fair to say the prequels with be in the same category of Alien and Aliens, not in the class of 3 and 4 and certainly light years ahead of the AvP crap. They are going to explore the Space Jockey, how the Alien ship ended up on LV426 and the back story of the xenomorphs. They will be storey driven, not just people as cannon fodder of the recent rubbish.

Yeah they did that way back in Predator 2, as CountZero said.
It does make a reasonable back story that the Predators bioengineered the Aliens to provide them with a worthy prey. (though you'd wonder why they ever bothered coming to Earth to kill a few fleshy meatbags in a Central American jungle).
The main trouble with both AVP movies (apart from the crap plot and story arc) is that fighting in big costumes is slow and cumbersome, but they have to make it look fast and dexterous. So they make it dark and do lots of jump cuts, which ruins the action.
Anyway, fortunately it was followed by "Day Watch" (the sequel to "Night Watch") so at least there was something good on.

Aliens is the best scifi action move ever. How many films of it's ilk get nominated for oscars....
When I started to watch Alien Vs Predator Requiem I thought my TV was knackered it was so dark. Could hardly make anything out half the time.
