I exhausted my supplies of their maroon colour packaged ground coffee. A recent visit saw me confused as the packaging has changed and have ended up with Columbian and Kenyan coffee, both as yet untried.

Can anyone tell me what has replaced the maroon colour packaged coffee?

Thanks. 🙂

Yes, black and maroon packaging at £1.79. So was it Kenyan or Columbian?

yeah thats in their specially selected columbian thats in maroon and black now

but they used to do a more basic one in black and maroon that tasted burnt like starbucks coffee..

no idea what replaced it , i tend to stick to their specially selected kenyan in the orange bag - its fruity.

Now you've really confused me trail_rat!!

It had coffee beans on the original maroon and black packaging, just to add to the confusion.

I'm afraid I have to go to evil Tesco for my Guatemalan coffee as no one else near me sells it.
Like most Aldi stuff except the coffee.

I used to drink French Blend,it was black and maroon, now they've changed it to silver, still the best one I'd say. It confused me more than it should have done.

On the subject of cheap and nice coffee, I find Asda elephant farm really nice and it's often 2 for £5.

It's not quite Booth's Monsoon Malabar but it's blummin' nice.

All their ground coffees are decent enough for the money. Currently finding their "Zebra" one quite nice.

Always preferred their "specially selected" versions to the bog standard maroon and black one. If I was being picky I'd like it ground a little finer mind....

I agree Greg most of their stuff is a match for quality brands but the coffee is a right disaster its got an odd taste that I don't think is over roasting, more a chemical treatment.

I usually buy the Java one, which IMO doesn't have the burnt taste others talk of. In the new packaging design it's one of the predominantly black packaged ones (with a leopard pic or some big cat). On the last visit, unfortunately there was no Java, so I bought the Cafe Express Original Blend 3/Medium, quite happy with that.

Whittards Santos and Java blend is a good fruity one. Might try Aldi's Kenyan one (if it's shit I know who to blame), any good for a press or is it one of those ones that's so fine half of it ends up in the cup? (gave up on Lavazza for that, amongst other reasons)

Try Limini Coffee for something different, order it in the morning and it will arrive the following day freshly roasted and either whole beans or ground to your choice.

At the moment i have 500g of Limini Blend, 500g of single origin Indonesia and 500g of single origin India, all beans so i can grind them myself and i'm mightily impressed with all of them - i'd be very hard pushed to decide on a favourite as they all have different characters but they are all so moreish.

Just beware, the Aldi packaged (Fairtrade, single variety) are only 200 grams. Most supermarket coffee is bagged at 227 grams. The Waitrose ownbrand fairtrade stuff is often just as cheap and tastes a lot better.

There were 3 Java Ethiopian and Columbian. They are all good and it won't take long to find which you like the most.
