So I'm a builder apparently, I can chuck you up anything you desire but need a little creative input sometimes. So here's where my dilemma lies. I'm doing a new patio on the back of the house, thankfully the wife is being good at the moment so I don't need an extra skip. The house walls are rendered/tirrolean and have just been painted white. There will be a new wall retaining the lawn approx 800 high and the existing boundary wall. I was going to render these in white, however I now have visions of us sitting on the patio on a sunny day and all being required to wear a welding mask as to avoid blindness from the white.
Any ideas, possibly cedar cladding etc?

Render doesn't have to be white, you could go for terracotta, or any other colour you like.

Hmm - if your wife isnt going under that patio does that mean you have space for mine?

Brick or stone will go with white, as a builder you'll have seen dozens of mock Tudor houses for brick inspiration and maybe an interesting bond

Making some decisions for Spring here too - I really like some of the WRC fencing I've seen on line. Plenty of sellers doing the little thin batons online/eBay - reckon it looks quite nice done as batons with small spaces between rather than as cladding.

Deadly what's that you're on about? Any links? I'm after something as perhaps a complete contrast.

Soz, WRC = Western Red Cedar.

silvatimber.co.uk had some nice images on their site for ideas. Plenty of sellers on eBay selling batons at a reasonable price. Just gotta hunt around as it can be quite pricey. I like the cladding where you have alternate batons set at two different depths - as you can then have privacy from neighbour's and allow light through at the same time.

Split faced tiling. Recently done a bbq / seating area in it. Looked very effective once finished.
