Long story short version.
Bought a 2nd hand car from a ford dealer. Not cheap. Air con did not work after a week, dealer 'fixed it' ie recharge. 2 months later, same problem called and asked them to look again, but couldn't fit it in and we were away in the car for the summer (it was hot)! They had it in today as it was the earliest they could do after we got back. advised it is the compressor.. £840 to fix and they are refusing to cover it! Clearly it was the issue but salesman refuses to accept that. He is arguing that we took too long and as 3 months has past it is out of warranty. Nightmare. What do I do?
Thanks in advance
G
The fault was there on purchase, which they failed to fix. You've got a little problem about not taking it back in a timely manner, but the fault was already there, so they don't have a case. Stick to your guns. The fault was identified within warranty
Great.. that is the plan. I have requested a call from sales manager as I'm guessing the original salesman is trying to protect his comission. Thank you. G
I have requested a call from sales manager
Good of luck with that. Best to be prepared to keep phoning and phoning (or better, visiting) until you get hold of him/her
Bought from dealer isn't fault assumed to be present at purchase if within six months unless can demonstrate otherwise?
Evidence of fault after two weeks and not fixed properly.
If no joy from dealer try Ford's entral customer care team (most manufacturers have some kind of central contact point).
I'm assuming here it was a sub 4-5 year old car bought from a main dealer forecourt?
given they’re already trying to fob you off I’d do as gd says and start with a formal complaint stating the facts to head office (look up making a complaint but try to ensure it’s beyond the dealer you’re already with) and saying the dealer has become unresponsive - this way you come across as willing to make a fuss/not be a sucker and the dealer now has someone monitoring them - typically it’s logged with area/regional manager and with a spot of luck they’ll be saying to the dealer ‘get it sorted’.
Guys, thank you! After writing a strongly worded email to the ford customer care, which included many soundbites from this thread I now have a written apology, a happy wife and a car about to go in for a new compressor and a full service FOC. Also a reprimanded salesman who has called to ask for forgiveness 😂
Funny how the first place I thought to ask for advice was an MTB forum! Singletrack does it again. Thank you
