Got a Golf with a standard VW RCD300 head unit in it. Would like to attach my ipod and looking at Dension,Dice and Connect2 kits.

Anyone used any of them and any words of wisdom?

Cheers

I've used Connects2 on my Sony headunit in the past, worked well.

Think that's the same one as I've got on a T4 camper van/Caravelle. I use a Dension cable, cradle bought of fleabay and it works great.

VW/Skoda do a kit for about £90 which tricks the head unit into thinking it has a 6cd player attached, the only downside is that you do not have a lot of control over the ipod, the 6cd buttons play the playlists or you can have it on random shuffle or play all. Fitted mine myself which was fairly straightforward.

ICE here in my Honda. Works splendidly although it doesn't charge my ipod touch. A lot of the heads treat the ipod like a cd player and each playlist as a cd so you'll need to create some playlists to get it working. Note that the ICE cable doesn't display the song metatag name data on the head, I was quite disappointed when I found that out.

I have the DICE kit in my Civic. What swung it for me was that a switch lets you "unlock" the interface on the ipod* (so you can pick tracks from the device rather than needing special playlists to pretend to be a CD changer), it has a standard 3.5mm input too if mates bring non-ipods, and it charges my iphone nicely too. Can do track forward/back from the steering wheel controls too.

No problems (beyond me not plugging it into the headunit properly and it worked loose!), been very happy with it. I can spend 4+ hours a day in the car and podcasts keep me sane.

* I think the Dension units do this too now.

Have you looked ath the 'io' range of products? I use an io play for iPhone hands free and iPod playing.

stay away from the VW kit mentioned above, there are far better products.

Get an FM transmitter. Honest, they are ace. No really. Especially if you like to hear the faint hum of static and interference in the background. Or, as is more normal, the faint hum of the music behind the loud hiss.

If you've got the money another option is to pull the existing unit out and replace it with a NRS510 (VW touch screen satnav/stereo). You can get them for about £560 on eBay.
As it's a direct replacement it's 10 min job to replace yourself and gives you a HD based satnav, 20gig of HD space for MP3 music, SD card slot that can read up to 32gig cards, voice control and it'll play DVD movies - and it sounds better too. You can also attach a BT adapter to it for your phone as well as a reversing camera and/or optical parking sensors if you wanted.
When I've got the money it's the one thing I'm putting into our Golf.
