Dad is moving back from US to UK in April but will continue to be paid by US employer for at least another 12 months
Any recommendations for someone who can advise on most tax efficient way of doing this? If nothing else to avoid paying tax twice (in US and UK)
Both the US and UK take into account your worldwide income and that is what you are taxed on. However there are tax treaties to avoid double taxation so you can offset tax paid in one country against the other so you should avoid paying tax twice. Tax laws and rates differ between countries so you may not have the same expenses as tax allowable and may end up paying some additional tax.
Most good accountants will be able to help you with this but will charge for it especially if required to deal with US IRS as it is a PITA
