WTF is going on that these 3 dont get time?a38 racing
Police must be as gutted as 'normal' locals.
I would make them watch as the cars entered a crusher, in fact make them press the start button too. as i type just heard some moron gunning it on road outside. what is the answer? do these people let insurers know?is any of it legal.

Yep - heard this on R4 yesterday.

Pretty shocking that they didn't get custodial sentences, especially given that they had been told to expect custodial sentences at an earlier hearing by a different judge.

I think there needs to be a change in the law, whereby the right to hold a driving licence & be able to use a car on the road is not a given.
People who are happy to do 130mph+ on public roads should have their licence taken away for more than the 12 month type bans that they get for things like this.
Apparently at one point, these blokes were clocked doing 120 in a 40 limit.
5 year ban with no option for shortening it should be a bare minimum, with a re-test before being given the licence and then perhaps a yearly re-test for a further 5 years.
Get done in those 5 years and you get banned for 10 years....etc.

This is the thing I was very surprised at tbh.

Agreed though that it seems ludicrous not to get a custodial sentance for going 120 in a 40.

It's been a problem there for years. I remember coming back from my parents' house in Lichfield into Brum to come to one of the roundabouts leading to the toll road, to find a Mitsubishi Evo in bits scattered all over the road, with Kevs desperately trying to push the car off the roundabout.

What difference will that make?

I've been trying to get home and found hundreds of them blocking whole junctions, car's parked up the HS and slip road, presumably they were racing round the roundabout at the top. Which was bad enough except we were already on a diversion as the M42 was closed so we had no idea where we were and the satnav just wanted to send us back to the closed motorway.

indeed this is something that's been going on for years. I worked in Brum 20 years ago and one young colleague received a short prison sentence for it.
He wasn't sacked but had to use all his holiday allowance in 1 shot to cover his 'employment break'.

Funny to see one of the cars is an old Rover 220 Coupe. Seems already a miracle that it still runs let alone is race-worthy ๐Ÿ™‚

The answer is neither custodial sentence or lifetime ban IMO.

I think they should be made to do public service - clearing up litter from roadside, cutting back trees from cycle lanes, fixing kids parks and school grounds etc. Maybe work a Saturday night shift cleaning out ambulances after some poor medic scraped a pal of theirs off the road. etc.

The reality is that there isnt enough space in prison.

If they are repeat offenders the cheapest solution might be community serivce and giving them opportunity to go dodgem racing.... and driving them in to a brick wall at 20mph to show just how much it hurts.

Edit: If we are playing top trumps, on the telly last night there was a chase on the M62 where the bloke was doing 150mph. He was in a stolen car, and just drove it to where he lived got out and gave himself up, having called up all his mates to come and watch. Probably the best fun he had had in years, and he got to brag to his mates too. Getting arrested and prison didnt appear to be an issue for him, getting acolade for being the 'best driver in Bradford' was what mattered.

We aren't allowed to put people in the stock nowadays so a five year ban and a good dose of public humiliation in the form of litter-picking and street cleaning ought to do the trick of embarrassing them in front of their pals.

Expected something different - years ago was at some sort of blokey business dinner with sales team from associated company and one of their top customers management team based just off A38 and much discussion about their i guess strava style segments from office to various A38 locations with monthly sweepstake style high money prizes

As to this weak and police need more support

In Devon the police have admitted they can't do anything about racing on the new Torquay link road because "there's nowhere to park a camera van".

Beggars belief really.
