Hello All, Hoping someoneone might be kind enough to point me in the right direction with ethernet cabling.

I have an Orange Freebox that has to be connected via an ethernet cable to the Orange TV box. One was supplied to do this but is only 2m long. The boxes have to be on different sides of the same room. So I thought a quick fix would be to buy a 10m cable online and run it around the skirting. But having looked online (I live in France if that makes a difference) I have found Cat 5, Cat 6 and Cat 7 are available. Any idea which one I would need please?

A Bientôt,

Ian

I asked this question a couple of years ago and was recommended to just go with Cat 5e.

It's plenty fast enough for a TV streaming box, more durable and cheaper then Cat 6.

your hardware either end won't benefit from 6 or 7 so the 5e is the best bet

Yep unless your router and recieving equipment is up to spec for cat6 etc,it'll only run at cat5 speed anyway.

The exception would be if you're running it through walls or something where it's not easy to replace, going for the higher standard will save you having to rip it out and replace in future.

Thanks for your reply mattyfez, and to be honest I hadnt thought of an upgrade in time ahead.

But it will just be trailed around the skirting, no walls to contend with!

Thanks again everyone, I really appreciate the advice.
