just been for a pootle in the car round the cotswolds. As is my way i stuck to the speed limits, i can accept that some drivers will want to pass and had a few do so, not always in places i would regard as safe but as long as i don't get hit its there neck.

What really pisses me off though is why some drivers, and it seems to be mainly young women in small cars, insist in driving within a few feet of my rear bumper?

Why? if you want to go past do so, if you don't use some common sense and leave a gap!

I just thought it was Volkswagen and Audi drivers who sat their sniffing your bum.

I drive a van for a living and the amount of above vehicles that sit their right up my arse is amazing. I said to my friend the other day that I reckon they're all gay!

Cost of fuel these days suprises me anyone who drives a private vehicle can afford to drive like a loon at maximum attack everywhere.

I have to say, I find this statement fairly ironic. If there's one road user that can absolutely, 100% be relied upon to get right up your arse when you're driving along at the speed limit, it's a bloke in a van. (Not you obviously)

As someone who cycles everyday I think I can confi that the most aggresive, ignorant and deliberately dangerous driver is a 25 to 35 woman in a smallish car, closely followed by small women in large SUVs.

It's because they have no concept of risk or spatial awareness.

I worry when I'm driving and see somebody using a mobile - it scares me silly if I'm on my road bike. The deterrent doesn't seem to work

I am a young woman in a small car and I leave plenty of room, - Enough of a gap that people are constantly taking advantage of that fact and pulling in front of me at the last minute to get off at their junction - If I have to overtake on a country road, I'd make sure I was on a decent length of straight (my car needs it..) and I'd start a good way behind the vehicle I wanted to overtake anyway, or else I can't see what's coming!

I certainly haven't noticed that many other women drivers on my tail (apart from a few in giant volvos or bmw's) - perhaps I'm immune from their road-rage, being their kind and all... or perhaps it's just that men notice women more often than other men??

Oooooooooh, what is it with all the anti-women threads at the moment?

To be honest, I find it is blokes that drive far too close. My car has roof mounted cycle carriers, a girlie rear window sticker and I have curly hair. They could of course be trying to peak at my sit up and beg in the back 😉

I've noticed that - on the whole - men seem to drive too close but women are less courteous and also generally don't seem to 'look ahead' as much as men (as in, leaving a gap when traffic is queued ups so cars coming the otehr way can turn into the side streets and not jam up their side of the road too or entering a traffic light junction controlled when traffic is already queued at the other side. That kind of thing.)

So stamp on the brakes*. After all, you thought you saw a small child run into the road.

* It's not big, it's not clever, and it'll probably go horribly wrong...

You have to adopt a speed where you can gently slow to a stop to avoid a hazard without them rear-ending you. They usually pass.

Fit a towbar.

Stamp on the brakes.

Problem solved.

Men or women have their faults.

I do believe that everyone that takes a driving test in this country should, as part of the test, be made to ride a bicycle along some busy roads to get an idea of how it feels for us commuting folk.

A woman driver myself, I do leave loads of room, I think it's because I've had the benefit of using the road in ways other than just driving a car.

Young bloke in a small car, and I drove far too close to people until about 2 months ago when my friend pointed it out when I'd been following her. I'll be honest, I'd never realised, it looked a safe distance to me.

Think it needs to be taught more clearly in driving lessons, I always hated it when people did it to me but turned out I was just as bad.

I saw two crashes happen in Stirling today - both were caused by young women not looking where they were going.

Why does it bother you? How about removing your rear-view mirror?

Do you really need it explaining? 😯

Best thing I've ever heard somebody do was somebody in work who's actually a very good driver had an idiot in a Porsche tailgating him. He gradually slowed to a stop until the Porsche was stuck stationary behind him without enough room to pull out to get round. Said bloke is also rather big, and when he got out of the car Porsche driver managed to find reverse gear 🙂
