I’m sure a lot of people have had enough of reading about 6 Music, but I’ve got an important point to make, so please have a read if you give a monkey’s about the station.

I’ve worked in a few jobs where public consultations are required, and generally things go through without much hassle, even in the face of massive public opposition.
The major reason for this is that people do not complain via the proper channels. The local papers may well be going ape, people may be forming organisations and holding meetings etc. but it is extremely rare for people to investigate what the proper channels are and use them.

The end result is that all the protestor’s work counts for very little; as most of the effort has gone into things that technically speaking, don’t count.

Please go to the BBC Trust website below, and click on the public consultation on the right hand side, and let them know what you think. That way it will count!

By all means join facebook groups, write to the paper to raise awareness etc., but make sure you complain via the proper channels too!

I personally would see BBC 3 go quite happily, with the better bits transferred over to BBC 4. Neither seems to have enough programming to provide quality viewing on a regular basis. The Art of Russia & Off Kilter were both very good, but Mark Lawson interviewing Rolf Harris?

To keep the thread alive & on the 1st page: I emailed the trust direct yesterday.

Did you see Paxman last night? Savaged the Director General the little I saw of it?

I agree. Please do take the time to fill in the form on the BBC Trust website.

I did it last night and it didn't take long. There are 12 sections (including filling in your name, ethnicity etc.) each of which is fairly brief.

I agree with the DG, the BBC have spread themselves too wide, need to concentrate on quality programs not trying to do everything. killing 6 music was a surprise but if its really wanted by the masses there will be a commercial outfit jumping on it soon

BBC3 > BBC6

Thats the correct culling order.

In my view, stuff that's got mass appeal isn't really the BBC's remit. I like the fact that they can produce really high quality content without worrying that Ant & Dec might be getting more viewers.

The BBC is like my bike collection: it seems to grow at an exponential rate, every time creating more niches for itself while always costing more and more money.

Sometimes you have to have a cull. And the weaklings are going to get it. 6 Music isn't worth saving - there is not enough about it that has made it worth saving.

And Moyles is? I'm not sure what niche there is for a terminally unfunny, offensive, oaf, but it's probably much much smaller than that of 6Music, were the playing field a level one...

Unlike BBC3 & BBC4 (should just be on BBC2), 24hr rolling 'news', 1Extra, BBC Parliament etc. etc.?

Kill Moyles and melt him down for candles.

A nation cheers, a massive salary is saved and a valuable income stream in candle sales is created for the BBC.

I really can't see a downside.
