Queer as folk or The West Wing better than The Wire? That makes the whole thing a sham.

Also. no Homicide Life on the Street? For shame!

Wheres Murder She Wrote and Magnum PI!

As Dad's Army is not on the list then that list should be stricken from the records.

To be fair to The Guardian, the OP has not put the proper title for the list which is:

"The Guardian's top 50 television dramas of all time"

Hence no cartoons/comedy etc

Just started watching The Wire - tell me it warms up please. Not particularly enthused just yet.

wtf @ corrie, eastenders, ...

Of those 50 the only ones I've actually seen at some point are Grange Hill, Eastenders, and This Life (colleague's sister = Milly, so it would have been rude not to watch it).

WASTE OF TIME. 50 best dramas, none of which I would bother with to be honest. Can't stand most stuff on TV, especially drama.

A Very Peculiar Practice - I did like that but not sure it should be at no.5.

the guardian is a bit broke and trying to sell the 50 most stockpiled xmas box sets via affiliated marketing links.

so few of those are actually worth watching imo.

Am I right in thinking the only current ones on the list are Corrie and Eastenders?
In that case, there are no good dramas on TV now 🙁

Nurse Jackie is looking promising though.

Aidan Gillen who plays Tommy Carcetti in The Wire played a character in Queer As Folk.

Ah right, never knew that.

He's alright in The Wire. McNulty was the annoying one (writers' fault, not actor's).

Mad Men is about to start its third series in UK.

Would be my number one at the moment.

Around episode 5 or 6 it kind of clicks and you see what everyone's been going on about. I'm currently at the beginning of Season 5 and don't want it all to end 🙁

NO Star Trek? It's had like 4 shows and a gazilion seasons?

No Stargate? again 15 seasons worth!

West Wing should be higher as should Band of Brothers.

I take it all back, I didn't read the list carefully enough to see Band of Brothers in there. Are any of the others based on true stories, I don't know.

So The CSI: Whatever Series' and Baywatch, probably the two biggest selling/most exported TV series in history don't make it.

I know it doesn't make them 'the best' but surely that kind of fan base is worthy of a place in the top 50.

I know these lists are mainly intended to fill space, get people talking and to infuriate us, but... Brookside better than The Sweeney?

Also, I hope that's the old Battlestar Galactica because the new one's a right load of s**t.

I must admit that I feel that Band of Brothers deserved to be placed higher than 32.

I have not seen a single episode of any of those programmes. (I haven't actually even heard of half of them...) How embarrassing..
