afternoon all!
good friend has asked me to help her look for a new car, she'd like a 4 seater drop top with decent size boot around the £5k mark, very much likes the volve c70, but is a little apprehensive over the volvo image!!
i'm thinking maybe merk Clk, saab 9-3 may even be pug 306??
any other suggestions worthy of s look??????
ta very muchly in advance,

Does not compute.
Volvo image? If she gets the T5 one it's got a good image (in the car world, maybe not the general public's world!). My cousin had one and it seemed a cracking car. Plenty of toys.
Audi A4 (if they come in the price range), 9-3 has to be worth a look, 3 series, there aren't many really. Volvo is probably the best all rounder.
Deffo saab
Plus 1 for Volvo
a good solid motor.
🙂
Soft top advantage of being able to put bike in back seat too ,"clean first thou "
I suspect all the folding hard-top convertibles have huge boots. The mrs had a 307cc and the boot was huuuge. Unless you put the roof down of course.
BMW 3 series
Volvo has scuttleshake like a bad thing...!
Audi A4 rag top would be my choice. Ideally with the big lump of a turbo diesel.
thanks all,
looks like it'll be between the m,erc clk 2.3, saab 9-3 or the volvo, audi's are the older (more stylish imo) 80 range as A4's are a few grand over budget!
the pug 306 was as a cheap alternative! 4 seats, decent boot and cheap to run etc. but not in the same league!!
dont think the 3 series is a go-er really, nice but down here they arte the chav weapon of choice!
have emailed a list over with autotrader/ebay links for merc's, audi's and saab's,
did find a Chysler Le Barron though!!!!
Masterati Gran Cabrio*
*might have to up his budget a smidge
Might be worth checking service costs and dealer/spares availability esp for the Saab. Friend got rid of his due to expensive service/repair costs!!
Four seater convertibles are just wrong.
Was it clarkson who said the only person who looked ok in the back of one was hitler?
what about a beetle? Not a great car, but ticks the boxes. as does that retro crysler monstrocity
If you want a big boot you need to look for ragtops, rather than folding hard tops. As a left-field choice, what about a landrover 90

4 seater convertible - wrong (American muscle cars and anything pre 1950 are a possible exceptions)
diesel - fuel of satan
Why would you want a diesel who's only saving grace is its fuel economy on the motorway, but also a rag top which is uncomfortable and inefficient on the motorway.
It's like wanting sex with Anne Widecombe, we all know sex and Anne Widecombe are generally good things, but the two together?

Anne Widdecombe is, let's not forget, the woman who infamously defended the shackling of pregnant prisoners in handcuffs and chains while they were in hospital.
She is not, even generally, a good thing.
thanks guys, seems that she's a little taken with the older style Audi 80 converts. dont blame her mind, prolly one of the only audi's i'd contemplate owning!!
but thanks for the help and suggestions!
Had a shot in a 306 and it wasn't a bad drive.
Styled by pinifarina too.
You idiots.
Saab. Very decent boot, not bad even with roof down compared to folding hard tops. Back seat useable. Somehow manage to be both classy and classless.
Avoid that LeBaron, horrid things, drove one a lot in America. If the budget can stretch to one, the Sebring convertible is nice though.
