Hi Folks!

Tis the season for new Years Resolutions (and yes, I've seen the earlier thread..)
So, doors are open for 2009 New Year Resolution Fat Club.
We'll run it for 12 weeks again and take it from there.

So, care to join?
Suggest this next few days it taken up building up the membership and getting starting weights etc, with the first weigh in taking place on Friday 9th Jan.

All you need do is drop us an e-mail at chris.sharonturner at mac dot com with the following in the subject field

STW board name. Real name. Start weight. Target weight.
eg - mine would read 'marsdenman. Chris. Start 15st 10lbs. Target 14 stone'
(weights can be stone, lbs, kg's - whatever is easier for you, we'll convert all to lbs)

Then, for the weekly weigh in's send an e-mail with your board name and weight (spreadsheet works out the losses)
ie 'marsdenman. 15st 8lbs'

(current club members will note i lost bugger all this last time, had droped half a stone but thats all back..... expect to start commuting to work by bike as of this coming Monday though, that should help....i'm doing a test run this Friday....!)

Keeping the detail in the subject field saves us opening a load of e-mails - when we set the last one up we had 40+ members. If you do need us to read something(eg to let us know you'll be away or something) just end the subject field with 'please read' and put the details in the main body of the e-mail.

Hopefully thats pretty clear!
We did have a lot of fall off (in terms of membership, not weight...) very quickly with the last one, in part i'm sure caused by our poor set up procedure (twas all new to me this ecxel stuff....) but we responded to feedback and, the spreadsheet is there, ready to go.....

I'll check back here and on e-mails this next day or two but i'm off to get my second G+T now so i'll wish you all the best, catch up with you in the new year!

PS - current Club Members - we'll e-mail out the end of term results this weekend.

All The Best
C & S

Whenever you like Mr Austin, just eat less of your preferred grub and move around more 😉
apparently that works wonders, not quite as good, or quick as Agent Piccolax though......

Well, I've started a 12 week competition with MrFC today to see who can lose the most weight/get into the best shape, so I may as well join in this as well.
Mind you, we've taken "before" photos, but I wont be posting those!!! 😉

Foxy - what you and MrFC do with a camera in the privacy of your home is your business 😀
TBH I think i'll do the same, indeed I suggest we Clubbers all do that, but only for personal use!
(And after tonights Thai Banquet has, ahem, passed through.....) 😉

I've lost half a stone over Christmas, despite eating half a Christmas cake in the last couple of days. Photo evidence of how bad I look at 12 stone on the beard thread.

I may be persuaded...

Foxy - if you need some moral support to get out drop me a line (addy is rob AT alpinist DOT co DOT uk). I am now ensconced in Ulverston, and could use both a good excuse to get fit and someone to talk to down here.

Life went really properly pear shaped a couple of weeks back so something to keep me occupied over the next few weeks would be a very, very good thing.

Hey, that's not fat! It's my long range fuel tank.

This forum's getting too personal - there's even a thread about front end flex.

And just spotted that the website hasn't been updated to the new ticket prices so you can still get them cheap until I can get my web magician to update it.

Can we have a STW get fatter club? For those who feel inclined to put on a few pounds (muscle obviously)..

email sent. I'm not sure 3 stone in 12 weeks is remotely possible, but we'll see. The wife and I had a challenge set for 12 months from now but if I can do it or a large part of it within 4 months then game on 🙂 Less weight to drag around the Dyfi Enduro course in May then 😀

I'm in for what it's worth. (email sent)
No idea how realistic the target is just plucked what seemed like a reasonable figure based on my girth and the number of weeks. I guess time will tell.

I'll play. Me and the Mrs do this most years but she gives in pretty early on. Is 2.5st possible in 12 weeks?

Hullo Folks,

So, 13 of you have e-mailed thus far with your details - please do E-MAIL YOUR INFO, it gives an element of control as opposed to checking through the thread.

Have not opened any communications just yet but there seems to be one or two big targets - I believe the healthy way to lose weight is at the rate of 1-2lbs a week, your choice but maybe revise your target to suit this rather than setting yourself up for a weekend or two on Piccolax to reach the goal...... 😯

I got on the scales today - 15st10lbs which is about where I started the last one ...... 🙄
We're pretty much clear of christmas food and booze so I'm concentrating on dropping the crap from the daily routine - missing my daily bag of crisps already - and dropping the daily bottle of beer.... did that last time and managed to lose about half a stone with little other dietary adjustment, then I fell off the wagon!!

FC - yup, only lady so far........

Chris

Chris, do previous members still have to email you the new targets? If so, and you are reading this, put me in as 164lbs current and 146lbs target

Yeh I think I may count as one of the ones aiming high with a target loss of 3 stone in 12 weeks. It was supposed to be 3 stone in 52 weeks when the wife and I planned it so seeing as this came up the same day, I thought 'what the heck'. I don't expect to get anywhere close.

If I lost any weight, I'd turn transparent.

I'd be up for stoat's club, though.

I'm 9st now, I'd like to put on 1/2 a stone, through developing muscle.

Is beer a good energy drink? It's got lots of calories, it must be.

I am going for 2 stone over 12 weeks (think that's what I put in my email) - so not quite in the league of some of you! Trying to get down from 19 to 17 stone... few year back I went from 21 stone to 17 stone 10 in about 12 weeks, and was pretty lean at that weight, so I have no idea whether 17 stone is even a realistic goal for long term or not! Still... worth a try I suppose.

Decided that this year has got to get better, and if I can get fitter and loose some excess it will help lift my mood and make more things possible (like coping with the current loss and grief side of things). Here's hoping anyway.

I will give it a go again - seem to have gained a stone over the last year, will email later.
The tip I was given over Christmas was to promise yourself a treat for steps towards target weight, going to work out what new bike bits and outings I could aim for over the coming weeks. 😀

Sent an e-mail to marsdenman to join, but haven't heard anything. Am I supposed to?

Reason I ask is that, without realising it, I sent my information before STW had recognised my fresh registration for the site.

yes Fridays are weigh in days, I'd lost a little so heading in the right direction as in down. It always starts this way, drop a couple pounds then the next couple become ellusive!!

yes, mailed Marsdenman - 4lb down this week but probably not all lard as was off the bike for almost a fortnight before this week! Still, in right direction and as long as doesn't go up next week will be happy.

Jamie - yep, be intersting to see, the attrition rate on the lat Club was extreme to say the least......

Anyways up, finally got to correct the formulae on the spreadsheet so here, for the terminally sleepless, are the 2009 Club facts and figures

52 members*
Total start weight 10851lbs 😯
Average target loss 21lbs
Average target loss as a percentage of start weight 10%
Average loss this week 1.5lb**

*13 yet to report a figure for this last week
**average skewed a little by the 13 not reporting figures, then there's the fact that 3 of you report losses of 7lb, one reporting a 6 lb loss, one reporting 5lb loss and a few reporting 4lb losses 😯 😯 - you guys (and gal...) eating your own limbs or something... 😆

Don't doubt anyone lost their stated weight - after all I'm one of the ones in the group that lost 4lbs (due mostly to the exertions of learning to ski...lucky me!).
Given its the first week I'm guessing some folk may have made significant changes to diet and exercise which would explain the higher figures, once the old body realises what's going on it will react accordingly and losses will likely settle to the (so called) safe figure of a lb or two a week.....
