Went out to get a picture of a windmill and ended up with a picture of a horse. The best laid plans etc.

A view from the Cam High Road across to Ingleborough, Whernside and Ribblehead viaduct. Part of the Dales Way, Pennine Way and Pennine Bridleway.

Things may look slightly different here soon. A few days ago, Yorkshire Dales planning committee members voted to allow a much wider track for timber wagons to be built directly down the line of the Roman Road here, rather than force them to use the existing tarmac public road at the top of Cam Fell.

This is Oaken Wood. In the world of mountain bikes, it's neither big nor impressive, but I have ridden my bike here for years.

In 2011 Kent County Council granted planning permission to Gallagher Group to develop Oaken Wood into an extension of their existing quarry. The results of a public enquiry are due in March, but I can't help but feel I will be sheding a tear at the loss of an old friend
