Im looking for a 1/2" drive bending beam torque wrench with a ft/lb scale on( i realise i can convert both the drive and the torque figure but why buy the wrong thing)
I only need 18ft/lbs but it cant be a clicky type wrench.
How ever when it comes to bending beam wrenches i can only find bargain basement 12.99 draper stuff - the park 3/8s "nm/inchpound" scale or 200 quid jobs.
Are there any middle of the road items that are not just rebadged 12.99 jobs ?
Or is it simply down to ease of manufacture and they are indeed worth about 12.99 to make.

is the cheapo and ive seen the park tw2 for 40 quid which is the wrong drive and wrong scale how ever - its much smaller "range" - 0-50 ft lbs and in my mind more likely to be accurate than a 12.99 0-180 ft lb wrench ?
I have one but I can't think of the name of the manufacturer. I'll find out and post later.
cheers appreciate it as bending beam torque wrench into google doesnt seem to give many options barring super cheap and super expensive , and the mad part is they look the same.
They are called deflection torque wrenches
if your wanting one for Landrover timing belts for example - you can use the clicker type but practise with it until you know exactly where the 'click' happens.
Otherwise get yourself a dialtype torque wrench-similiar function to a deflection type but more accurate.
Honest question: are the clicky type not accurate then?
yes clicker types are accurate but not suitable for certain applications-and dont know the OPs application but for example on Defender engines you use a deflection or dial type torque wrench to put a certain amount of tension on the timing belt idler/adjuster before then locking it down in place.
It is possible to use clicker/breaker type torque wrenches in this situation but it needs practise and familiarity of the 'breaking' point of your wrench. Better to use a dial type.
RNP is on it like a john deere bonnet
my 200tdi needs a timing belt before i dare take it for an MOT.
I've gone with the Park one + an adaptor to take it up to 1/2".
If you can wait I'll give you a lend.
All the 1/2" ones have far too small a scale to be useful at 15 Nm or whatever the tensioner needs.
EDIT: when I did the old 300tdi I just duct taped a kitchen scale to a 1/2" breaker bar, M=Fd and bob's your uncle. Certainly the cheapest way.
Couldn't be arsed with the faff this time around though...
i can wait .....
im currently here
13°52'46.44"S
123°19'4.33"E
and im not joking 😀
how ever it will be cheaper both price and time to just buy the thing so its sitting at my house when i get back as i have 3 weeks from when i get back to have a stagger , get the landy through an mot and get my arse to my wedding !
