MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
I seem to remember a thread on here about this last year?
So whos with me? I am going to start tonight!!
http://hundredpushups.com/index.html
my wrists don't bend far enough for me to do push ups on the palms of my hands - I always have to use my fists and then my knuckles ache.
suprised they use a picture of a kid to promote it - I've never seen one do a press up that looks right.
never got past about 50 in the past
following a nasty wrist break back in august, i still cant do a single proper press-up.
i do have push up bars, but still feel thats cheating and I will keep pushing till my wrist will do it properly.
ok i am in

I use the iPhone app - I've been stuck on week 3 level 3 forever (I can complete day 3 on a good day only) but TBH I'm ok with this - doing the routine has done wonders for my upper body strength and I don't want to get any bigger as I'm happy being a skinny git
I started this last week, doing the middle column. I really struggled on day 3, so I'm starting again with week 1, day 1, middle column tomorrow evening.
I'm in.. I started this last year but hurt myself doing the initial test and lost interest.. 😳
right post your test results tomorrow, however embarrassing!!
EDIT: Push up test, not any clinic results
Hmmm, I have been thinking about this so suppose I should get on and do it.
I'm in - i'll start next Monday . . . .
It will be my third time in about 6 months trying this... Wonder if I'll manage to get beyond a fortnight, unlike previously.
There's an Android app, which makes it easier to be bothered to do it
my personal best is 96 in two minutes. back in 2006. I would probably struggle to do 50 at the moment.
Kev
That programme is absolute horse****. Progression to 100 push-ups in six weeks, regardless of your starting ability. Right... 🙄
Quite.
I think it was developed as a joke 🙂
Has anyone (excluding people who can already do 50 press-ups) managed to completed it?
Tried it last year and for some bizarre reason I ended up in column three all the time, got to week five before a knackered shoulder put me on rest duties. Now using push up bars and doing slow and controlled push ups in repeated sets of 5, 6, 7 or whatever until tired, which seem to be having a greater effect.
Interested to give it a go...
Just got down on the office floor and bashed out 12, so I'm in column 3.
Dammit!
😳 I died after 10...........
Practice makes perfect i guess 😆
Quite.

Oh right, then I am OUT...... 🙄

I don't think you'd get from zero to 100 in the time, but if you keep repeating weeks until to can comfortably complete them, you'll progress. If I get to being able to do 20 or 30 in one set, that'd be a considerable improvement for me and I'd be happy.
Just tried it now (not done a single press up since I left school I don't think ?)
Managed 24 before my wrists gave up !
Pretty pleased with that really 😀 (39 years old, don't go to gym etc)
Restarted it a few days ago. Did 30 on my test which I swear is due to recently improved posture (shoulder blades back and down!)
Managed 16 but I was nicely warmed up after helping at the after school cross country club.

Maybe not, be interesting to see if any of us manage it eh!
I generally do 25, a 90 second plank, then another 25, then 25 dumbell curls on each arm with 15kg and 100 sit ups. The push ups I do slow though to make them harder. I'll give 100 a go later.
*edit* 50 straight is no problem and if you keep it up every night, 100 should be easily achievable in 6 weeks. I'd like to see people doing them with straight backs though - makes me laugh when you see folk doing them and they look like they are trying to do the caterpillar 😉
I started it last year but after about 3 weeks it started to ramp up far too fast for me- totally stopped my progress, even after redoing weeks. So I got pissed off with it in the end, just became totally disspiriting. I enjoyed it while it was achievable though but the plan didn't work for me.
I got to week 5 day 3, but it took me three months to get there. I think I could do about 65-70 consecutive at that time.
are you really telling me you can't do a 100 already?
jeebus
the 200 squat thing is quite funny as well
i might be in, i'll have a look tomorrow.
Just done 75 in 58 seconds, then faded (had two pints though). Left it a minute and did the remaining 25.
Will do 100 straight later, or tomorrow.
18 in a minute for me and felt like I was going to be sick towards the end. Just had a pizza and a couple of ciders though which probably didn't help. If this actually works I may be tempted to give it a go but going by what's on here it'll take me a year to complete week one 🙁

My hero....
Just done 75 in 58 seconds
You're not doing them properly. Take 2 second down and 3 seconds up; how many can you do then?
yeah if your doing them that quickly your form is rubbish and your using momentum. i always struggle to do lots of reps of anything but i think its because my form is good. i could do 50 super clean pressups within a few weeks, how much further icould go im not sure. but flapping about like that dick isnt my style
Just had a look at week 6 and that looks tough. May give it a go though.

Just done another 25 with that timing - normally do them slow (not quite that slow though) see my earlier post.
Bear in mind I've just done 100 fast though and 50 x 15kg curls, as well as 30 sit-ups with 15kg on my chest, so I'm a bit pooped.
Will try slow ones from the off tomorrow - won't manage anywhere near 100 though.

And pissed.
Ok just downloaded the app it's not bad actually, did 24 so it started me at week 3 which to much so I've started on wk 2 and can just about manage that.
Anyway I'm in

No need to get insulting, I know how to do a press-up ffs. When I'm in the gym, it's low reps (10-15) with as much weight as I can manage, slowly.
Will try slow ones from the off tomorrow - won't manage anywhere near 100 though.
Doesn't matter, you're still my hero.
Really don? I wish it were true, then my life would almost be complete.
Really.
No.
When do you stop pushing up when you try it for the first time and how do you do the push ups?
Is it suppose to hurt? Do you go until you can't any more, do you stop when it start to ache? Do you have to have both feet on the ground? Only one? Do you keep your elbows close against your chest? Do you open your amrs wide?
Lack of question mark denotes a statement and not a question, therefore no answer required. Perhaps you're not quite as AWESOME as I thought. 😥
I'm a failure don - I almost berated what I perceived to be your poor punctuation too. 🙁
erm 4...
macho bullshit LOL
week 1 column two.. I'm taking it very steady after last years disaster.. 8)
Just started using the android app, managed 20.
Not bad but no where near a hundred.
Just done the test... 23 for me, 8 for Mrs C. Phew, still out of breath now! Only 100 days to go bring it on!
Tried it last year, but had to stop when I got a bursitis on my right elbow and was advised to rest.
I think the last lot I did was 60 in two minutes, but it was a pass, so I didn't care. It gets easier to get in the 300 club as you get older, so as long as my body holds together and I keep some fitness, I should be there by the time I am 80 or so.
I did 25 which puts me straight onto week 3, not sure if that's good or bad?
Pushups really make my wrists hurt.
So I'm doing the 200 situps challenge instead. I was doing over 300 at a time before I broke a rib last year but it's amazing how quickly it gets hard again.
What about a plank for 2 minutes challenge?
Can girls play? Just had a go.
Managed one then had a glass of sparkling wine. Then managed another.
try another. Three glasses of wine will make you not care any more. 😉
Oh dear, had a quick go and managed 27. Week three looks like a hard place to be.
Just did 99 one armed finger and thumb push ups...must try harder.
I think I've found a new hero. Can you drink copious amounts of alcohol too?
No, LSD
Real men do pull ups. I can four, that's right, four whole pull ups.
Thank you for all your encouragement. You guys are so right, it's just a case of discipline and application. Managed three and now to bed.
I will finish the rest of the bottle tomorrow.
Juat downloaded the free android app so I will play too.
Keen to get started, did my test last night, says I should wait a few days to start, maybe start on wednesday but is everyone starting next week?
There's a lot of people moaning about wrist injuries on this thread, buy a set of push up bars,(wrists now straight), and crack on I reckon
week one column two completed successfully last night.. I even did some sit-ups whilst I was caught up in the glory.. bring on wednesday
grrrr..!!
Do these "100 push-up" doo-dah's actually work?
I tried an Android app version a couple of months ago. Followed the schedule religiously. Got to the end of the programme and could only manage 50 at the most.
I guess there are good and bad programmes ... ?
A few years ago I managed to get up to 70 using my own made-up non-scientifically based exercise 'programme' ... although I was a lot fitter overall at that time
At the moment I can only do around 25 press-ups before I have to switch to the other arm. I can't believe some of you guys are up above 50, that's impressive.
On the other side of it, I struggle to do a single one armed push up
Some of it is just simple motor learning, I think - your body gets used to and more efficient at the motion and better at recruiting muscles fibres efficiently. Or that's my understanding of it. So when you do something like a million press-up challenge, a proportion of it is about becoming more efficient at the movement as well as improving muscular strength and endurance. Though gawd knows I'm not a sports physiologist, so I may have just invented all that...
I used to do ~100 in around a minute back when I was a teenager, one-armed I could manage about ten, ~20 vertical legs up against a wall or tree (cf original Mean Machine) before I went a bit red in the face. For some reason, I thought it would impress girls 😆
Nowadays, it's ~25 a set, feet on a gym ball.
Managed 25 . I do have long arms though so further to go than some!
I clearly need to drink more beer .
Managed 20 on the test, week 1 on Wednesday I think.
40 on the test, arms are a bit sore now................
I've just this minute knocked 1 out, in the bathroom. 😉
I did 15 this afternoon- with my 4 year old son sitting on me!
Although my arms dont half ache now....
Think i'll give this a go.
Did 105 when a police recruit 18 years ago. My belly is much nearer the floor these days so should be even easier 🙁
Week 1, day 1 completed 🙂
Day 1 week 3 completed shoulders feel erm weak and wobbly suspect they will hurt tomorrow.
