Both of the above look decent. Big fan of bottle cage mounted tool, my specialized epic evo came with one and I liked it enough to buy another for the other bike, at £40 here
and then added to that a lezyne mini pump which comes with its own bracket to bolt up.

With the location of most frames cage mounts being on the downtube, and hence in the firing line for mud thrown from both wheels, don't these cage mounted tools get absolutely caked in crud? To the point that they become useless? Or need a strip and clean every week?

I'm a fan of stealth tools, but unsure I want them on the downtube. Maybe good for the road bike though.

I'm guessing that's why this one is encased in a tube with a lid on it rather than being open to the elements.

I like the look of this one but at that price I would hope that Crank Bros sell spare bottle cages so you only need one complete set and can fit just the cages to other bikes and swap the tool & levers from one to another. If not it's going to be a very expensive investment.

Does it hold a chain powerlink or a pair of chain powerlinks?

I would say the long-term value and peace of mind are worth it.

Why is it so expensive? Have you asked Crankbrothers? And how, after using for just three months, can you be confident of its 'long-term value'?
