Zwift meetups and social rides ?

Mrs Weeksy doesn’t care 🙂 Especially in covid times as it’s not like we’re going out for lunch or anything.

Woe betide me if I've not served fresh baked croissant and a cappuccino in bed at 9.47 precisely whilst I draw a bath and sprinkle with rose petals ready for her ladyship...

She'll know something is up at that point but it'll soften the response drawn by a large bike shaped hole in the bank account a bit.

So many Zwift threads! 🙂

Anyways - next week virtual commutes are planned for Mon, Tues and Wed next week at 6.45 am if anyone wants to join in?

Mon and Tues are bookmarked for workouts so elastic band will be on (a social workout if you like). Elastic band means you can do what workout you want within Zwift (or other software) and then the group stays together.

1hr on Monday, 45 mins on Tues and Wed.

Let me know if you want an invite. Cheers

I'm still in the office so can't come out to play that late sorry. I might sneak an early one in at some point but if I do it'll be 6am for 7 finish. (I quite fancy a morning muir and the mountain for some reason.)

That was my early morning commute route back in the day before I hooked up with you lot, quite like that route but I used to avoid the radio tower...was too early for that pain!

Anyway at least you get to hit the epic KOM tomorrow Brian, it comes fairly early about 5km in and if you survive the wife you can also do the reverse! We are in complete local lockdown right now so I can definitely get away with 3 hours, there is nothing else to do!

I can’t get out over the weekend as the mrs is working both days so Zwifting tomorrow morning. is there anything planned?

forgive my ignorance if I’ve missed it in one of the several threads (how long before somebody infiltrates and roadie type abuse ensues).

If not I’ve earmarked either the herd race at 9am London Pretzel which apparently I’ve not done before. Or Kirchmair endurance ride also at 9 around Dust in the wind, again i haven’t ridden the course before, doesn’t say it’s a race but they all have a tendency to go that way.

As they are longer races I’ll probably stick with C for now don’t want to be too knackered for the day by chasing Bs for an hour and half.

Thanks for the invite and sorry to ditch so early folks.

I made the mistake of looking at the distance to go way too early and once I twigged I was going to be a long way sort lost my motivation really.

Might have had it in me if I'd gone from the word go but sort of defeats the point of a social!

All good dangeourbrain, think when the distance is too far it’s hard to keep going knowing the pace you need.

Think my chat was playing up at the end, good ride today enjoyed that, thanks for the invite and company, felt strong to the end, moral being rest days are as much part of training as riding.

I don’t know what happened this morning, I jumped on before hand for a quick warm up around the desert and got the invite the reminder I was quite ready so tried to refuse it in the app but then lost the event and invitation altogether.
I couldn’t find a way to join so Did the same course as a drum n bass ride at 8.30. there was no drums or bass but a shit load of climbing. That was a tough way to earn a route badge, blimey felt so much like binning it on the last climb but didn’t want to give in or miss out even though my legs felt the opposite.

Ooooo that was tough! managed to get the 100km badge with Robbo but it was through grit and determination towards the end. Legs are shot, my arse is numb...100km, 3.5 hours on the bike and 1400m climbed...a big day in the saddle for me.

That's it now, short rides only and a rest !! 😉

Got a nice grey kit for hitting the 100, it matches my hair haha!

I've had that happen Kirky, I usually have to end the ride and reload zwift again to get the invite back. Not good with only a few minutes to spare...

Cheers all who came along and oopnorth for finishing of the 100k. Doing 25k through the dessert is pretty boring! 200w average for 3.5 hours. Time to destroy some cake now!

Mega pretzel next? Seems doable now. Same distance as today with a bit more climbing. Would def change bikes for the jungle sections based on the race we had.

Anyone for pencilling in 4 Horsemen? (it'd be a much nicer route in reverse if it's possible?)

I've done Mega Pretzel, I would do again I had a short break at the mid-point, I'd probably not bother changing bikes though.

@dangeourbrain I would be up for doing 4 Horsemen I am not sure I can match your hill climbing pace but I'd like to give it ago, and having it as meet may may make us more likely to do it, not sure if I can do in one or would need a quick rest mid way through.

I was pushing the boundaries of wkend child care duties this morning, think I need a couple of weeks before I go for another long one. Good for 2 hours but 3 to 4 is pushing it.

Not sure I have a 4 horseman in me anyway...it's hard enough doing the Alpe on it's own.

I thought tomorrow would be perfect 😉

Was thinking in a few weeks would be sensible. Give folks time to sum up the enthusiasm!

I've done the equivalent before and it was hard work, did the alpe with [name escapes me sorry!] then joined you lot for three sisters. I was glad of the company by the end.

It's definitely a ride which needs a brief breather at some point. Alpe first worked well enough as the descent gave you a few minutes to [s] stop and eat cake [/s] stretch and things

Sorry I ahd huge faffage and power meter issues! Never had that before!
was all fine, then the 1800 watt efforts kinda took it out of me 😉

Not sure what was going on...will replace battery and see if anything changes..

Hope i don't have to send it back to Avio...

You flew up the hill though DrP!

Maybe do another big one in early November? We are close to half way through October anyway which is pretty crazy.

We can always do a time limit for a route as well so you can start 4 horseman but set the meet up time limit at 2 hours and see where we go. Would help to build up to the bigger effort.

My son got his bean bag and sat next to me for about 2 hours this morning playing Pokemon. He would look at the route map I had up and say you still have a long way to go. Very motivational!

Forge - did you say yes to a commute this week?

The second time up the hill you seemed to fly Slowpuncheur! Just went out for coffee and cake with the Mrs and got a curry later. 2400 calories up after that ride so don’t feel guilty.

Alas..once Zwift figured a sustained 27w/kg isn't really real, I was throttled back to 10kph.

Discrimination agains my awesome legs I say... 😉

I'm well up for another 100km route... Anyone around Thursday circa 0930 at all?

It took me a while to come round after that...plus a large helping of spaghetti bolognese! No cake in the house...would really love some right now!

I'll say never to doing that again but I said that about the Alpe and have done it a number of times now...

Ventoux...that's a different story.

I'll see how I feel in November 🤣🤣

Ooh. It's a bit cheeky the four horsemen isn't it? Nearly 800m more climbing. Go on, how did you find Ventoux @oopnorth?

Only done full Ventoux once and 2/3rds up on la Reine route.
They both hurt...bad...its just on and on. At least the Alpe has sections to break it down.
I kinda want to do it again but can never muster up the energy to do so. I might wait for an event to do it as a group.

I think mega Pretzel is doable at some point.

Mega Pretzel is do able

7th Nov is that for the Four Horsemen I can do that, I've done a similar amount of climbing so if I don't go off fast be fine.

Commute can do Wed/Thur or Friday next week

I've not done Ven-top but did la reine or what ever it is called and carried on to the summit. It is pants. It's the most "turbo like" route I think I've done on Zwift.

If I get my way 😉

I've got all morning if needed but I'd suggest an early start mind. Seem to recall when I did similar it was about 3 hours.

It's a brute but you do at least get a sense of achievement!

Used best bike split to calculate my time to complete four horsemen and it came out as 1 minute over 4 hours! 80% intensity factor and 270w ftp. Guessing oopnorth and slowpuncheur would be a similar time! I managed 82% if this morning so that is reasonable.

Mega pretzel is 6 minutes quicker so not a lot between them. Uber pretzel is 5hrs 24min!

4 hours??? Reckon alpe being last it may be worse than that...I'll need DrP's power this morning haha.

Will need to be an early one...7am maybe.

Mega Pretzel took me 4:00:29 with a 12 min break so 3:48:15 ride time.

Happy to do Four Horseman on the 7th let's get it done and planning now means I can put a couple days rest in before doing it, I don't mind the Alpe being at the end make it more epic.

You have to ride down the alpe and back into town! Just tried to create the meet-up but it doesn’t let you plan that far ahead but 7th at 7am works for me. Will put it in closer to the time.

I'm in.

You have to ride down the alpe

You'll be glad of the coast, you would not want to try climbing off your turbo at the top after the rest of that.

I think we should make that a challenge. Anyone who manages less than 120% of ftp on the sprint has to do another lap!

And keep doing laps till we make 120%.... LOL I'll be glad to have made it to that point, it will mean nearly over 6000ft of climbing has been done

Off on a tangent I know but...

Your use of ft reminds me of advice I was given years ago about prepping for a 5k run for the sedentary, it went something like :

Women, try walking 1k, now walk 2,run 500m... Well done you can now run 5k
it was about 6 weeks of incremental (sensible) increase.

Men: 5k is 3 miles. 3. 3 is a little number. You can run that. You might die but YOU'RE A MAAAN. Well done you can run 3 miles. Unit conversions are your friend, make it sound small and hate yourself if you're incapable.

Moral of the story, it sounds much less daunting in m. Use m for climbing and Mi for distance. Most of it is psychological anyway. It's why we still drink in pints not half litres.

Good ride everyone, thanks for that. I'll set another one up for London Classique next week.

My sprinting is crack at the moment, I need to do a few more of these and finally crack the 1000W ceiling.

Let's try the STW discord for that one.

Right, so who is in for some Sunday hills?

Thinking around 2 hours this week after last weeks epic....plus an 8am start good for all?

So options....

First 3 are a bit of everything...
Bigger loop
Big foot hills
Dust in the wind

Tour of fire and ice (the Alpe!)

London's Surrey hills (basically all hills with not much flat)

Innsbruck??

Or a Ventoux but I think we would be all riding solo so not much of a group ride.

Thoughts? Any other options?
Let me know your preference and I'll set it up with invites.

Any of the first 3 are fine for me.

Undecided about the Alpe 🙂

Not too fussed about Ventoux or Surrey Hills.

Yeah those are my preferences too, a bit of everything and a bunched group ride!

I'll await to see if there is any other feedback from others and then choose one of the 3 if no other options.
