If you can do that after the sprints DrP, then you were not pushing hard enough!
I'm considering an Alpe pootle myself in the morning, early doors. But it will be a pootle, just an aim to hit the top, no PB attempts! Problem is that I see that clock ticking and I just can't help myself...
Anyone fancy a climb up Alp du Zwift after the london flats??
Rather more than I fancy the consequences of not having Mrs brain's dinner on the table at 20.05 sharp.
Just signed up for the 1st stage group ride of the Tour on Saturday, currently over 1400 taking part, it's going to be busy on that Mountain...
thing is, I'm no sprinter... I've said before I can peak at 600w... i literally can't get more... but seem to recover OK after...
I'll try to get max power today...!
anyway... I'm here, keeping away the seagulls...
DrP
Good ride that everyone, thanks to Dangeourbrain for organising. Legs are feeling doing 2 every lap sprint sessions on the bounce though.
Good ride tonight I enjoyed that. Got a power pb between 30 and 40 seconds too. Still can’t really improve on the sprints but no big deal it’s good fun.
****..alpe in 57.08....
ow..
Rolling down, then EAT!
DrP
Good work that Dr P. Sausages for tea?
I left them in London....
DrP
oop north what time are you doing Saturday? was about too post about that event, see if anyone doing it going to try and do all three. I am going to 10am as I am out Friday so don't think I will make the 8am one. there are over 1300 booked on the group ride for that time too.
Thanks all for coming out to play this evening. Good effort on everyone's part.
Well done on the alpe DrP
@forge197 I'm on the 8am one Saturday, I've things to do so need to get it done early. Plus I wanted to keep Sunday free in case there is the usual Sunday hills ride.
Great effort DrP...hurts doesn't it?? With my weight, to get 57 minutes I think I need to do 400 to 500 watts all the way up haha...no chance!
@opp north I’ve also kept Sunday free would be up for Sunday Hills at the moment.
Oop north... I was averaging 245-250ish watts pretty much all the way up... got into a Nice rhythm where each segment was about 250w, 160bpm HR...
Stood up and pushed it for a bit on the final leg, but TBH I’m more steady and stable sitting and pedalling 250-280w SAT DOWN with high revs, rather than picking a high gear, standing, and pedalling at 60rpm...
With a bit of effort, sub 55 min should be possible, but would need fresher legs!
DrP
what cadence Doc ?
I'm on the 10am Saturday one at the moment with nearly 1500 others.
250w would only give me a 2.85 w/kg output, not enough for under the hour I reckon. Think I'd need to be at least 300 to 320w.
Cadence is something I need to work on, I'm more of a plodder than a high spinner, usually around the 80 rev mark. Any tips or training to improve it?
By the way...Sunday hills...any requests for routes that you need ticking off? Let me know and I'll set up a meetup.
Best avoid watopia, especially the mountain with the tour going on, it's very busy!
Something up to the 2 hour mark
What about Achterbahn ?
what cadence Doc ?
Pretty much 90rpm all the way up... upping to about 100 on the last leg..

I've always aimed (on geared bikes!) for around 90-100.. i'm led to believe this is the most efficient. I can certainly stick to 90rpm all day long, and keep comfortable power at that RPM.
I guess a good method is to keep an eye on the RPM on Zwift/garmin, and just force yourself to pedal a bit faster (dropping a gear or 2)... you'll soon get used to the faster cadence. Like I say - I can pretty much remain at 90prm just be feel/muscle memory
DrP
Did it a few weeks back Forge but we can do again if wanted.
There is surrey hills or London Pretzel also. I'm easy as I've done most already apart from the crazy long ones like mega pretzel and four horsemen.
What about Achterbahn ?
Might not be daft seeing as yet again Innsbruck isn't on a weekend through July.
Anyone doing commute in the morning?
Cant do Sunday hills this week as of to see the in-laws in Yorkshire. At least we have to maintain social distance so no need to get too close to them!
Thought I recognised the name Achterbahn, don't mind Surrey Hills either
I'll be in for a commute in the morning Robbo if you want to set something up.
Sunday Hills - How about the London Pretzel? Something for all and should make a good group ride, flats, sprints, fox and box hills. My worry with Surrey hills is that we may be riding solo most of the way around as it's hill after hill.
Let me know and I'll get the invite out, this or Achterbahn
Ive sent out an invite. I have put down cobbled climbs for 40 mins. I don't think we will make 2 laps. Not sure if it is a bit climby for a commute? Just thought something different!
Lets try it, quite short, sharp, shock hills. I'm okay with it.
Isn't it just one nasty little hill on that route anyhow or did I blank out the rest?
I'm hoping to escape the office tomorrow so I'll join you for the commute if I do.

You wouldn't do me a favour and visit mine too would you?
Think it is a couple of short sharp climbs but nothing too long.
3 climbs altogether on that route, first 2 are short and punchy if I remember correctly, last one is longer, not as steep but goes on a bit towards the finish line. Only the first 2 are timed.
Just checked should make 2 or 3 laps easy. it isn't the full uci route but about half of it.
London Pretzel is good with me for Sunday, any chance of invite to tomorrow commute ?
Right I've put an invite out for Sunday Hills, the London Pretzel, 8am start. If any want to join or haven't received and invite, shout! Follow me on Zwift, Craigpin Oop North and I'll add you.
Forge - Robbo has arranged the commute so follow him and he will be able to send the invite
Unless Derbyshire goes into a local lockdown by Sunday then I won’t make Sunday hills which is a shame as I haven’t done that course yet! Might try and tick it of the lost on my Friday lunchtime workout ride.
I'll try to be there Sunday... loving zwift again at the mo!
going out with the gf on the bikes Saturday (I got her an e bike!), so if not too hung over Sunday, will leave her in bed and hop on the turbo!
DrP
Thanks for the Sunday invite, but I'm supposed to be doing a 65km bridleway route heading out from Oakham.
Can't miss the opportunity for a summer ride, although haven't checked the weather!
Can’t miss the opportunity for a summer ride
I hate to break it to you but you missed it by about a month, and it was glorious and nearly 3 months long.
I've signed on for Sunday but might make an early dash for it. Quite a few outdoor jobs to do since it looks like being a dry day.
Just saw Ian Stannard on zwift so had to say well done for the 2015 Omloop Het Nieuwsblad - still cycling's best mugging!
Well that was a wake up call this morning! The course (cobbled climbs) did work OK for a more lively commute though!
In not sure more lively is something I'd want in a commute, sounds like the sort of ride to work Dezb has at least 9 times a week
It was good commute really enjoyed it. Got 4 more Power Curve PB's in Garmin, just two more that are from 2019
Don't let them fool you Brian, it was horrible and hurt! 😉 It certainly woke my legs up!
I followed it with a circuit of Yorkshire and that felt easy compared to the cobbles.
So yeh, in the ******* rain both my tubeless sealant failed and my pump failed this morning 😀
The great outdoors is going well.
It's a sign Pie!
Renew!! Renew!! 😉
Just a reminder about the Sunday hills ride at 8am this week - London Pretzel route. If anyone wants to join and I've not already sent an invite, let me know.
I've signed up for Sunday, it's a route I need to do still, but might need to cut out at the last minute.
Doing Etape at 8 on Saturday morning with what seems like half the zwift subscribers in the world.
I'm on the 8am as well mrhoppy, I'm thinking it may be hard to get past folk as you will get that silly sticky effect that sometimes happens, like a tractor beam effect. Part of me also wants to see what its like going up the mountain with so many others, it will be a bit unique. The plan is to take it easy and enjoy the event.
Thanks for the invite , all being well I’m going to the Surrey hills again but will leave invite open in case it all goes pear shaped.
also doing the Etape on Saturday but the 6.00am one
cheers
Brian, Robbo...are you doing any commutes this week? I'm having a rest day Monday but am up for other days.
Tuesday and Thursday are good for me!
I won't be able to make Sunday Hills next two Sunday's, though I'd be up for a Thursday commute if someone sends me an invite.
I'm in the office tomorrow but, assuming nothing changes, should be good for the rest of the week Craig
Cool...need to look and see what routes, unless we keep to the usual richmond, sequoias, volcano etc.
See you Tuesday
That london Pretzel was a good Sunday route, we need to do that another time.
For commutes what about a MTB lap? Jungle circuit including the lead in should be about 20-25 mins. Could make it a timed one for 30 mins to get part of another lap done.
Second oop north comments The London Pretzel was a good Sunday loop not silly hard but a couple good sprints and climbs nice balance and felt like a good workout.
I'm up for a mtb jungle loop Robbo, would make a good change!
Sent out a commute invite for tomoz morning for the MTB loop on the Jungle Circuit.
Is 6.45 OK for people?
I'm in. So bike change to MTB's then?
Its up to you I guess but I am going to get some miles on the MTB!
Good ride this morning thanks oopnorth. I will put in a Volcano climb for Thursday.
For Sunday hills I haven't done Lutscher CCW. It looks fairly low mileage but that route doesn't include the lead in so you have to go up the climb twice so there is at least 1 hours climbing!
Yeah Hoppy is right, in meet up mode it starts at the top so only one climb, but if others want we can always go round twice? It can be set for a time rather than distance...1.5 hrs or 2 hrs?
Have you done the UCI there? That would the hill and the city circuit, so would include some sprints etc.
Thanks again for the commute this morning Robbo.
Ah OK cool that is a good hack. I can cover that one off on one of my lunchtime one hour workouts then. Should be easily doable.
Routes I have left to tick off are:
Big loop
London Pretzel
Surrey Hills
And all of the stupid long ones!
But I am happy to do any really.
Sorry I didn't make it this morning folks, in the office again today.
Robbo just so you know, that hack doesn't work for the clockwise version of the route as the meet up starts with you already past the start / finish gate, so it wouldn't be a complete route on one circuit. You may be able to go back through the gate and then do a U turn to start it correctly but I'm not sure if that works...only trying will tell. But for the CCW version it works fine as is because you have to go through the gate.
I also have the stupid long routes to tick off, the painful ones which I don't see me doing really as I don't usually have 3 or 4 hours spare with family commitments. I'll probably do them once the family is away somewhere in the future and I'm home alone. Also a few New York ones which for some reason I can't be bothered with New York...that KOM climb doesn't do it for me. I might try one tomorrow.
Anything happening tonight? No worries if not, weather is OK so might venture outdoors!!
Am I right that you have to invite at least one person for a meetup? I'm wondering if I want to do a different non-scheduled world as a ride, I guess the only way is through meetup?
I may just have to randomly invite one of you one morning...you don't have to accept!! 😉
Yeh you have to invite at least one person. I have used it before to tick of routes. I am happy for you to invite me oop north. If it is a route I fancy I might join you. I am 9000m away from the Tron bike now so might try and get a bit more climbing in.
You're closer than me then, I'm about 13000 away. Once I have the Tron i'm giving up on climbing haha 😉
I might do that then Robbo, if you get a random invite, feel free to ignore!
For Thursday I think I have set the wrong route to what we have done before and it is a bit longer. Should only take about 45 mins though so happy to keep it as it is if people are happy.
I'm fine with it Robbo, it means we have a lead in to warm up the legs. Usually it's whole lotta lava route.
Just keep it as is, if anyone wants to bail early they can.
I am fine with the route in the invite
Thanks Robbo and Forge for the commute this morning...enjoyed it!
Sunday Hills...not sure if I can commit this week as I have a lot on. So I wont set one up in case I cant make it.
If anyone wants to arrange one please do and I'll join if I can but I may not be able to do a full ride.
Alternatively we can all do our own thing 😁
Thanks Robbo and Oop North, that was a good commute 🙂
I can't do Sunday Hills either this week or next, few bits on with early starts!
Think I'll be doing the 10am Saturday unless I am up early.
Should be up for a commute next week .
Sorry I missed your morning folks, didn't think to check the start time and assumed a 7am. Realised I had about 30 seconds to spare when my alarm went off and the start reminder said 6.45.
Not sure about Sunday hills this week or next and certainly no commutes for me next week as I'm away and have no intention of taking the turbo
