Zwift meetups and social rides ?

I had some weird goings on. I waited at the op of the KOM and went to open the window (literally 5 seconds of the bike). Came back said @Dangeourbrain and @Kirky72 had finished the climb on the leaderboard, then I set off again to catch up. Saw 2 riders in the meetup in the distance on the map about 1 minute ahead so proceeded to chase. Couldn't see any chat or anything either or beacon looking back or forward so had no clue where anyone was! Really odd...

There have been a few glitches recently with disappearing riders etc. Looked like @DrP had vanished coming out of the jungle, his chat greyed out and everything, though he had just moaned about zwift setting his trainer difficulty back to 100% so it might not have been coincide.

Cheers for a good ride all. The bike swap broke the group a bit and it was a pretty pace after we left the jungle but did me good ta!

So, is anyone interested in a 100 miler in 2-3 weeks.

Likely a tad slower than what some of you are capable of.

@piemonster I might be interested, I still need the 100 mile badge.

But let's not finish on the Alpe eh? 🙈

Ha ha, I'm not Ian or Brian

I'm actually thinking out and back again for 4 and a bit laps. Avoids too much repetition and won't put off those not keen on massive climbs

With a bit of luck,  that should set us up for outdoor riding a few weeks later

long ride you say, how about London PRL full. vested interest as I need the badge.

would need 2 or 3 breaks maybe.

@piemonster point of order, I wouldn't have you finish on the alpe.

2 laps of Horsemen would see you tick over the 100mi mark in the jungle somewhere I think, certainly after the alpe though.

Benji. After the climb we waited for a bit i think just behind you, I think you went down a while before the last group up the kom came over.

was a slog for me to finish after not changing bikes. took quite an effort after chasing down the front group after the descent down after the climb from the jungle. caught on but had to average around 280/300w for a while up towards the Italian villas but got dropped typing a message.

Caught on to Ian as he caught me going through the volcano and he towed me to the finish.

thanks lads. now for some romance for the rest of the day.

My first Sunday Hills, enjoyed that thanks for the invite. Took me the whole of the flats to warm up a bit mind.

@Kirky72 I had quick go at changing bikes after stopping on the KOM decent however it doesn't seem to work (greyed out) do you have to log out or something?

I've just realised, there wasn't a single offer of sausage from @DrP today.

@benjim you were probably not completely stationary, that or zwift.

😆

Suggestion : 100 miler without too much repetition and climbing

Response: how about PRL full ...

Not discounting it btw, I've not done it either and am in a reasonable place to ride it at the minute

benji, you have to be completely stationary before changing frames becomes an option. I don’t often bother because I need unclip or take my shoes off to walk over to the lap top.

Due to being no use whatsoever in the real world my turbo bike has a terrible combination of crank bros pedal that I use with mtb cleated shoes they have a grip tread formation that makes clipping in a real pain. They didn’t last long on my hard tail for that reason and if I come un clipped during a Zwift ride it could take me 5 minutes to get going again.

I tried the PRL full when Robbo etc did it...I managed 6 laps and died...

Still plan to do it at some point but will have to do my own pace or I will burn out like last time.

@oopnorth

Would rolling flat course taken at a lower pace than normal Sunday hills suit.

Could maybe do that in 2 weeks time then anyone that is after PRL full can go in 3  weeks.

Even then I know I'm not staying with Kirky on the climbs.

Cheers guys for the ride this morning.

Could be interested in a 100 miler depending on start time.

"I’ve just realised, there wasn’t a single offer of sausage from @DrP today."..

I was starving...I kept them all for myself!!

Sorry i dropped out... I was rnning the turbo/HR via the companion app, and then that dropped out for some reason, so my power just went... restarted the companion app, and then it seemed i was no longer in the meetup...

Oh well...was fun anyway!!!

I've pinged out the invites for next sunday..
0830 in France..Petit Boucle... meetup only view. All and sundry welcome!

I did mention in the bantz (tm) that I need to do the PRL full at some point...
Was thinking.... with proper fuelling and training, 4 ish hours should be acheivable, right....??!!!

Will be a good pace on teh flat, and a decent spin on the climbs....

hmm...

DrP

#challenges...

Give me some notice me I’ll join you for it. One day when the forecast for the weekend is shite would be ideal. 8am start and finished for around 1pm with a couple of loo/coffee breaks.

Have to insist or resist on racing each other up every climb though or I won’t last 100 miles.

Another boring one but may be a good group activity is 25 laps of the volcano circuit. This also ticks of the 100km badge for those who haven’t done it.

@piemonster flattish route good for me as long as it's not too flat and boring...or repetitive.

Like no tempis fugit for example...dull.

Invite accepted for Sunday, I can’t recall if this is the route I professed to never do again, we shall see when I ride it 😂

I did the TDZ stage this morning with the 'new AI' drafting. I quite liked it, the blobs seemed much more natural in some way, seemed more inclined to 'line out' than blob up.

I did one this afternoon @haloric
My own avatar seemed more stable and I liked it sneaking through gaps. But I thought the other avatars in the pack were all over the place, sideways and front/ back. It left me out to the side a couple of times, getting the draft but looking like I wasn't, which was a bit disconcerting.
I can't figure out to what extent it's a change to the physics, and to what extent a change to the display.

Did PRL full yesterday. Was one of the worst episodes on a bike due to the sheer repetition and fairly unrelenting nature of the course. I think if you can keep in a pack and not let it all fall apart after each climb it's doable but I certainly won't be repeating it any time soon, regardless of not actually getting the badge due to Zwift stall and having to get late entry! Did all the climbs though and was shouting at the laptop on the last climb that it just needed to be over now 😀

I am supposed to be doing the Struggle dales in may, moved from last may and September, will probably be postponed again to September.

In the current climate I don’t feel comfortable riding 80/100 mile rides even though they are from the door so some long and lumpy Zwift rides every now and then will have to suffice as training.

Something like Prl full with very regular but not overly long climbs helps to replicate the constantly hilly terrain with 7 stand out tougher famous Dales climbs to recover from over the 108 mile sportif.

I did the event in 2019 so know I can do it, the weather then was horrendous for the first 60 miles, so I’m aspiring to do it faster, improve on the climbs and generally enjoy it a bit more in the process.

@kirky72 What's the nearest climb on Zwift to Park Rash? Epic KOM at 100% trainer difficulty? Bloomin hard route that.

Like you Kirky I wasn't hopeful for much this year but got an email about Lakes Jennride yesterday (which is basically individually self supported anyway). I can complete it just want to enjoy it more than I did last time by being fitter.

Hopefully the zwifting will help with that.

#slowpuncheur There’s nothing quite like Parkrash on Zwift. For feel it would most likely be radio tower at 100% for 2km, however the first section of parkrash would be an additional 10% as it’s 20 to 30% to ten first left hander. My trainer won’t quite replicate it. 2km at 10% average.

Add to that trapping hill, two stoops, malham cover, hartwith bank, greenhow and all the constantly hilly terrain in between and it’s a tough day.

Robbo one of my mtb riding buddy’s as done the lakes Jen ride and always trying to talk me into it. I love riding the lakes and I think I might cope with the route if you push some of the ridiculous gradients but really can’t get my head around two tough days and sleeping in an hedge or on the ground overnight in between the two. Maybe next year though.

Could always go for an all nighter?! We were debating this for last year (which didn't happen) as I meant carrying less kit and the legs felt awful after 4 hours sleep! You would be fine with the route - if I can do it I am pretty sure anyone can - surprised myself with how I improved my technical riding from doing it (but when you are tired some of the descents get really tough). I think there is a 60 mile option which is def a day ride from what I remember.

There's a 30%er near me which is OK fresh but not with 50 -60 miles in your legs. The nearest thing on Zwift must be the Ramp Test with ERG mode.

@kirky72 if it does go ahead and you fancy a beer or the like or just someone to drop off some clean clothes give me a shout and I'll pedal up and meet you

I was meant to be doing Bealach Beag the last couple of years. I didn’t make it in 2019 due to family issues, then last year it was COVID.

Then, at the weekend, I get an email saying it has been postponed until 2022!

Do I try the Bealach Mor in September instead and hope that doesn’t get moved... 🤔

The Rally Asturias has been moved again to September. If my mate asks me to spanner for him again then do I take the bike and have another go up the Angliru. Did it 2 years ago on the Hardtail with 1x10 gearing and it is a sod. But I did ride it all. WRT tonights ride. Do we use Discord during the ride? Just asking as I have installed it but never used it.

Looking increasingly unlikely I'm going to make my own ride this evening folks as I'm still working with a chunk on my desk to go.

Hopefully see you all at the line but it's more hope than chance do you may be deprived of the golden beacon tonight. Still it wouldn't be the same if that beacon wasn't robbo would it?

@welshfarmer there may be folks on discord but usually not, commonly we chat through zwift (using companion app for ease!).

I'm definitely too knackered after this mornings 75 miler for tonight. so looks like both the instigator and the organiser are none starters.

Think I’m joking the SZR 200km on Saturday if anyone else want a horrible start to the weekend 😂

Just planning on seeing how long I can hang on rather than expecting to complete. So long as I get 100km.
