Hi
I have an xtr 10 speed shifter which unless a new inner is fitted doesn't shift as light and precise as it should.
I run 1 by 10 with a one up 42t with rad cage.
This shifting has always been like it, I bought the shifter new.
Any one else had the same problem?
Thanks

No that's fine, it's also fine once a new inner is fitted but wears very quickly. I use SS inners.

I have this, in my case it's caused by the way the cable loops from the rear chain stay into the mech cable guide at a steep angle. Too much friction, but unfortunately nothing I can do about it, believe me I've tried.

cnud - how about a full length outer and don't faster it to the last guide on the chainstay; leave it to loop round more gently ?

Ugly, mind 😳

Yep got the full length outer. Bit of a heel rubber to, so I reckon not using the last guide would end in tears 😀

I use a V brake noodle at the junction with the rear mech. It seems to help.

Have you tried changing the outer cable. I've found with better cables the inners last longer, but when it gets to a stage the inner needs changing the outer also needs changing as it's damaged/worn/contaminated/slick coating has gone.

I have same setup as you and had the same problem. The issue was friction in the cable from bb along chainstay to mech. I changed inner and outer and it's back to finger light shifting again, even with clutch mech engaged.
