I need some new rings for an M970 chainset. I know the BCD is the same as other 4 arm stuff, but I also know the "lateral" spacing is different, and that a stock aftermarket granny will sit too close to the middle ring.
What I don't know is whether this is caused by the middle ring being in the wrong place or the granny.
I want to run 22/36. If it's the granny thats different, then just buying an M970 22T is a pretty cheap solution. If it's the middle, then I need to play about with spacers to make it all work properly.
Any experiences?
Thanks
There's been loads of threads on this (not having a go, i did the same). But to answer your querstion i'm pretty sure its the granny which is the odd one out. Have a quick search on the forumn though and you should get a definitive answer 😆
Granny ring requires 2mm spacers, readily available form SJS cycles, outer and middle will fit fine and dandy.
+1 KT
I measured them the other day & the XTR M970 ring has 1.89mm more metal on the part that sits against the chainset.
Ok - but if I buy a M970 granny, which is only £2 more than a middleburn one, then it'll work without spacers??
Thanks!
Yes.
