Asked this question a good few years ago not but worth a revisit.
Wife has a really small inside leg, 27 inches. Still riding a 26", an incredibly rare Forme Winscar Carbon that weight very little.
Looking for a hardtail only, bolt through axles, XC type ideally.
No actual budget but just looking for something of good quality that she must sit on before buying so writes off custom.
Thanks all.
Just going by the thread title...how good a spec is your wife? That could change the offer of xt or xtr...
On a more serious and sensible note, I've seen a few bike manufacturers offering good prices but the sizes all seem a bit 'odd' - plenty out of stock...
What wheel size are you looking at? Would it be worth buying a well-specced 'kids' bike and a frame? Not cheap, but may work...
Haha I would take an XL for myself!
Looks like everything is defaulting to 27.5 but the components are junk so everything will go to make it light. Why would you run 2.4 on a 21mm internal? Majority is QR. Suntour forks etc.
Been riding years so kids bikes not any use.
I'm saying 'kids' bikes but it is smaller adults bikes with 26" wheels...needs found though, which is exactly what you are trying to do.
What about the MTB frame from Hup.cc? Like this - https://hupcc.com/products/hup-xc-mtb-hardtail-frame
For modern geo, small and light I think the hup above (smallest size is a 27.5.wheel) or a specialized chisel are your best bets (XS also a 27.5). Both are low standover.
The Chisel standover is too high at 28 inches. For lightness and good builds it was the obvious choice but similar to Cube, the XS has replaced the Small for some reason.
I'm liking the Hup though for sure. Good find and thankyou both.
This is my friend's bike, bought for his daughter who hardly used it. If you're interested I could put you in touch as I'm sure he's up for a deal?
Have a look at the Liv Tempt maybe? Not the fanciest spec but nice bikes, my daughter has a mid-range one. Budget for new tyres straight away, the OE versions weigh a tonne 🙂
Whyte Secta 26, fits someone up to 5' 0". Spec doesn't look brilliant but at £650 you can almost treat it as a frame only and upgrade it with nicer parts.
