OK...

98 Zaskar LE with full XTR.

It's got SID Race forks which need a bloody good service and rebuild. $200

But I'm also tempted with some rigid carbon forks. $180.

The SID's are crazy light. Yeah only 28mm stanchions but fine for the purpose (Zaskar is my towpath / beach path / day out blast bike so not huge amounts of off road - more gravel bike territory but fine for a retro hardtail.

Would you get the existing forks serviced, or have a blast with some rigid carbons (or, perhaps some Ti forks??).

I can't decide (but ultimately will get the forks serviced at some point)

Do the carbon forks come with a straight headtube that'll fit?

I'd service the forks myself. Won't cost that much so not much to lose. There is quite a difference between a little bit of suspension and no suspension

Black rigid GT CroMo forks or a DIY service.

I would get the SIDs serviced to keep the bike right and I don't even like or use suspension forks.

Yeah straight steers carbons made by Exotic.

If I'm going to do a full service I'd prefer forks to be done by a pro tbh. I'm a little ham fisted when it comes to the intricacies of rebuilding things!
