Found this metal base for a work bench on the 'bay and it look interesting, as I alway suspect that the shelving type benches really aren't "all that" strong.
Any thoughts or alternatives?

95 quid buys you alot of wood for bench assembly.

How ever number 1 will be stronger than numbe 2 for sure.

very damp garage & I'm a DIY muppet.. basically the question is, is the metal one OTT & the rack better than I'd expect? Could you physically jump up and down on it and not have it collapse? Yes that sound bizarre but I'm just trying to describe a test you can measure by..

I have a version of the second one (bought from Argos of all places) - it has lasted seven years and is ok BUT I only have a light vice (4") mounted on it and I replaced the MDF top with a ply top and used the MDF to make the back (its fine for hanging tools off!).
Mine is in a warm dry room - my honest opinion is that it wouldn't last long in a damp environment... The drawer rollers aren't great either 🙂

EDIT - I definitely wouldn't jump up and down on it - it really isn't that strong!
