Wobbly lyriks, bushes?

LSo for a few weeks I've had what feels like a loose headset but definitely isn't and it's slowly getting worse.

When I hold the forks around the seal I get slight back and forth movement but only on the air chamber side.

The fork is a lyrik ultimate model before latest, it doesn't loose any oil or misbehave in any other way just this knocking feeling.ย

ย

I'm currently thinking it might be the bushes inside the leg are worn out, a quick Google suggests the bushes aren't replaceable. Any one have any tips/ ideas before I send it off to a specialist?

ย

Thanks

Funny you should bring this up as mine and my sons have both started to judder.ย

Bit miffed as I've serviced them every 50 hours from new so surprised they've gone. 2022 forks so not that old.ย  I have some Pikes from 2016 and they are still judder free.

Yes they can be rebushed but struggling to find someone who has stock . Need to be careful that cost of repair doesn't exceed value.

Are you 100% sure it isn't the headset?ย

I had something very similar and it turned out to be the lower headset bearing.

Leave the bike upside down for a bit to get some of the lower oil down around the bushings. When was it last serviced? And yes the bushes could be worn.

I am 99% sure it's not the headset, but I will remove the fork and check it all again.

ย

Forks last serviced January this year, I haven't done much riding since, under 50 miles.ย

My 5 month old SID C1s have a similar issue - slack bushing on the damper side... despite servicing it every 25 hours (coming up to 100 hours soon). 🤷‍♂️

Interestingly, the air spring side has always been very tight (way too tight) - but it hasn't loosened-up at all in all this time.

It all seems a bit random to me - there can't be any consistency with regards to the bushing QC else there'd be similar wear on both sides.

Anyway, it's going in week after next to get sorted. 🤞

Leaving upside down made no difference.ย

ย

Have contacted a few local suspension places to see if they can help.ย

ย

A friend suggested doing a lower leg service to see if that would help first, any thoughts on this?

What oil do you use in the lowers? If it's very light it there's not much left, that could be why leaving the forks upside down didn't help.

A lowers service and use something like fix 20wt gold or Supergliss 100 might improve things. Having them apart might also allow you to get a better feeling for what's wrong one leg at a timeย

There needs to be clearance on the bushings but if they are worn, you'll need new lowers. They are not replaceable in rockshox.

I've been using the tf tuned lower leg oil they supply as part of a service kit.

Different fork altogether (which now calls for something thicker), but I've found it a bit thin for my liking. It doesn't seem to stay on the bushings for more than one ride...

...so I turn the bike upside down for a few hours, and the key thing after that is to lie the bike/fork on its side or horizontally. Only then I find the oil gets to the top bushings. 🤷‍♂️

Then it's beautiful (for a bit)... and back to square one.
