I normally only ride the hardtail over winter but it's been off the road so i've been on my Prophet and it's really suffered. The Stiffee's now back up and running so i thought i'd attend to the knocks and various other funny noises on the Prophet. I started with one thing and i just kept finding other bits that needed fixing.

I've just finished :

Full service of the Lyrics
new rear shock bushes and mounts
new bearings, freehub and spoke on rear Crossmax
new rear mech
new cassette
new chain
new cable and outers
new BB
new (to me) vgc XT chainset
new brake pads at both ends

and a general clean and fettle.

I'm not riding it now untill May!

Most of those things would have gone on any bike.

The only additional maintenence on a FS bike is the shock and busings. On some bikes they're a 5 min £10 job, so you're just left with the shock maintenence, which is expensive or a faff, or both.

takisawa2, i know but it's not going out if it's muddy!

aracer, thankful for being on pedant watch, i stand corrected.

yeh, obviously i know maintenance needs doing on any bike, but it was just funny that practically everything went at the same time and that bike really seemed to suffer after a sloppy winter.
