No, different spacing between sprockets.
Friction one would be fine.
You might get it to work across 2 or 3 gears but not all the way.
Iirc, every time an extra gear was added, the gaps between each sprocket got something like 0.3mm narrower. As well as the sprocket itself getting narrower too.
