I made a batch (30 tubs) of wild garlic pesto a few weeks ago for the freezer as the leaves were still young n' fresh, took some out earlier for my salad dressing t'night.

Ah the fond memories of stitching your mates up on geology field trips. Wild garlic in every nook and cranny of their bags/belongings (in their sarnies was a personal favourite)

Incidentally, this is a stunning combo, wild garlic pesto, Jersey Royals and spring lamb chops.

Happy foraging.

Todays brief ride

Looks suspiciously like where we were last weekend... just off the SDW?
Stuff absolutely stinks. Hate it. But then I did have a terrible crash into it once and walked back to by car in pain and whiffing very garlicky.

I read, it is closer to onion than garlic.
It is called Ramsoms too.
who cares though. Tastes fantastic, I think it has a garlic butter taste about it.
Hasn't flowered here yet, not surprising bloody freezing.

My pic was taken a month ago, in Galloway!

The flowers are edible. 8)

Just been out the Carrick coastline for a dog/bike run to collect some veg for my tea, Sea Kale greens which being early in the season are really tasty, just as good eaten raw as steamed with butter n' pepper, Sea Beet leaves which are kinda like spinach but sooooo much tastier and if i can be arsed to leave the house i could wander a few hundred yards and collect some cuckoo flower to throw in a salad but i'm not being greedy t'night so i'll make do with what i've got.

Free wild food is bloody ace, and so much more nutritious than the bagged shite they sell in supermarkets

@somafunk - Mark @ Galloway wild foods runs courses near you, regularly does free local things at Gatehouse. My pics are Cally Woods.

Yeah i guessed you had been on one of his courses, i met/bumped into him a few years ago as i was hunting for Chanterelles in Carstramon wood nr Gatehouse, i had my opinel mushroom knife which must have signalled me out as a forager - there's loads of edible wild food in this area if you know where to look for it. One of these days i'll find the elusive scottish truffle, they are bound to be out there somewhere but unfortunately "Toby" the dog much prefers chasing rabbits to sniffing out truffles.
