fight, fight, fight.
Which one should I get, help me decide please ๐
Thanks.
More info needed but just on brand alone I'd go Whyte
Whyte is for tall guys only, even the Medium which is the smallest they do has a 630ETT, also availability is scant, sold out at ATB so shop stock only at the moment.
Couldn't comment on the handling too strongly as it was way too big, but backend seems to blend insane amounts of comfort with very stiff power delivery.
Hi,
I found the Whyte great but I'm over 6 foot, it handled really well, didn't notice the big wheels in the twisties. I couldn't get the Giant to fit so well but I've had this problem before with 26" Giant HT's so maybe the proportions that they design their frames around just don't suit me but I know other riders who like if and say it's very stiff especially compared to the XTC in Alu which is said to be very comfy. I also tried (and purchased) a Stumpjumper, it fitted me better than either the Giant or Whyte, handled as well as the Whyte and has stiffness to spare. Give them all a try but none of them are overly available so I'd be quick...
thats the trouble - getting to try them out ๐
i'm 6'2.
Having the same dilema.
I have booked the Giant XTC for test ride Saturday and hope to get a test ride Whyte the following saturday. ๐
Seem to be available in Sussex for test rides, not sure how long an order will take to come through though should I go for one of them.
Scott Scales are really hard to find for test rides as these are the 3 bikes I've narrowed it down too.
If you managed to take any of these? let us know!
Same here, further to my post above I've ask my LBS to hold my Stumpjumper as he has other customers who would like it. Which LBS has been able to get an XTC demo for you? Did they have a large?
Ive got a Whyte 829, which is a better spec than the 29C and 100 quid cheaper. Slightly heavier but not enough to be a problem. I preferred the spec over the 29C as its Shimano and Fox rather than SRAM and RockShox.
Fantastic bike. Im 5'9 and have the medium frame which is around 18". Loads of grip and goes uphill like nothing Ive ridden before.
Giant Store in Shoreham have demos Alu versions which is the same Geometry as the composite. I think they only have a medium though. They're really helpful, try giving them a call.
Thanks for the info Variflex. I'm just curious as to handling comparisons as the Giants head angle is steeper than the Whyte but the chainstay length is near enough the same. Heard nothing but 'good' about both bikes.
Coming from an underused Meta 5 which is just to much weight and suspension for me to be hauling around the downs. I fancy something a bit slimmer and nippier.
Looking at Carbon and Composite models and can upgrade components as they wear out.
Took the Giant out today Alu version. Reassuringly quick and nimble up and down!
Loved the ride!
Rebas felt a little harsh but maybe that's just setup. Also bars are very straight which made handling feel a little wierd at first but got used to it.
All I know is the Giant has a Mahooosive down tube .....def no crud catcher needed......
My lbs has a demo Giant Xtc carbon and a Scott Scale carbon ....everyone seems to be ordering the Scott
I was very keen to get the Whyte moving on from my 805. They really are great bikes but the frame size just didnt fit.
I decided to go for this

Much better value than the Giant, its a great bike.
Giant or Whyte im sure they are both great rides.
