Marin East Peak 2005 - high pitched creaking sounds coming from the frame all the time (well - not when it's sat in the shed). It's much worse over rough terrain. Any ideas what could be causing it? It's really hard to pinpoint where the noise is originating. It's not the BB. Could it be the quad link bits and bobs?
Ta loves.
when did you change the bearings last? any play in the frame/BB?
all the time (well - not when it's sat in the shed)
You say that, but I bet it does. It waits until you've closed the door and gone out, then it starts again. Mine does. I know because I've crept back and listened outside the door. Bastard thing.
Marin's of that age and older eat DU bearings. Whip the shock out and replace them.

DU = depleted uranium? ๐ฏ
Blimey.
it's a Marin. It'll be creaky bearings.
They all do it. It'll be worse in dry weather too.

Ok just wear headphones then.

So is this a chronic condition - like arthritis - that is worse in certain climatic conditions.
Do I have to ride round on a bike that sounds like a clown's car or will the problem be resolved by replacement bearings?
Are Marin the British Leylands of MTBs?
Marins just creak, and the swing-arm amplifies the creaking.
Best bet, buy a new bike. Three to four grand should fix it nicely. Just think... Nice silence as you ride...
Do it! You know you want to.
Perhaps it's the bicycle equivalent of a dirty protest...
Most bikes creak at some point in dry weather.
Heres a non exhaustive list of possibles.
Cable ferrules - where they mount on cable guides and where the cables fit into the ferrules.
Cables and hoses - where they pass and touch the frame

Oh, and your frame might be broken too.
does it have the split h links? if so that's probably where the noise is from.
my mate has the split h link version, mine are one piece. his creaks like a bastard and mine is silent. new bearings and the whyte shock bushing upgrade probably helped too :O)
Fit a hope hub, it'll drown out the noise.
Friend had a mount vision with an awful creak.
It was down to the swingarm pivot bolts being a bit dry. Took them out 1 at a time, cleaned and greased then (bolt shafts too etc) and this cured the creak.
