A few cycle paths round here and other parts of the uk run parallel to the roadway, at a junction there are usually give way markings on the junction for vehicles coming from side roads, and entering onto the main road, and the same on the cyclepath, meaning cyclists need to give way to cars on the minor road and proceeding onto the main road.
But what about cars behind you on the main road that are going to turn into the side road, should they give way to you as a cyclist as you cant see them approaching as theyre behind you.
Should you stop at every, give way line and look around just incase some motorist decides he is going to overtake you and then turn left.
Discuss.

Assume everyone is trying to kill you.

If it's a Give Way line then that means Give Way to other traffic. A car turning left won't be crossing a Give Way line. I think that's a clue.
I do, but what does the collective think is correct, and what is the law/rule.
Which is why cycle paths in this country are utter shite druidh.
And smart-arse of the year is....

I'm not disagreeing. It's also one of the reasons I mainly choose to cycle on the road ๐

But the car is overtaking you and then turning left, shouldnt the car wait until youve passed the junction.
Who cares whose right of way it is. You are on a bike, they are in a car, no point being dead and saying "but it was my right of way". Keep out of the car's way - as above, keep thinking everyone is trying to kill you.
highway code rule 170 applies i suspect, assuming no marked giveway on the cycle path.
Regardless of who *should* have right of way, you need to assume that cars behind you may turn into the minor road, it's no good technically having right of way when you are being t-boned, it might help in the compensation claim...if you survive ๐
Seeing as how the left-hook-no-look maneuver gets pulled on cyclists even when they are on the same bit of tarmac as the cars you can't assume that they will give you right of way when you're not even on the road, and if there is a give way on the cyclepath then you should give way.
Cyclepaths like this are the reason some people don't use them.
If you are on a cycle lane that has a give way line then it's not "overtaking" you as you aren't on the carraigeway? (I've never seen an "interrupted" cycle lane that isn't segregated.)
Don't think of it as "right of way" as on the roads there's no such thing. Think of it as "priority".
The rules though, are that if a car is turning into a sideroad, traffic already crossing the sideroad has priority (so if someone is crossing the road, the turning car should wait).
But given that a car will hurt a rider more than a rider will hurt a car, do what you would teach your kids to do. Stop, look and listen! (or at least, look).
it's no good technically having right of way when you are being t-boned
And this doesn't matter anyway because as a cyclist on the path you don't have right of way/priority over the cars anyway.
So with something like

or

you should be giving way to cars on the minor road and cars making right and left turns off the major road. So yes, you need to check a full 270 degree range before entering the road to make sure no-one's going to run you over.
Of course, in the Netherlands they'd look something like this and bikes would have the same priority as cars on the major road:

this is local to me, the only problem is that whilst cyclists clearly have right of way drivers never give way

Which is what you should be doing irrespective of any paint on the floor. ๐
bails - if those photos are undoctored, that is ass-covering of EPIC proportions by the local councils. Just mental.
Or as a South African girl who use to work for me got the answer to her question
Her - "at a mini roundabout who has right of way"
Me - "whoever's the largest"
mrno - that junction is just badly executed, as you turn in (especially if you'd come across the traffic) you probably wouldn't even notice those give-way's - if they'd have stuck colour across the road that might help (but at night, nope).
