Anyone tried this?

Current 32/17 ss on a full sus with reverse components tensioner but could do with an extra gear going down and on road.

Cheers

Dingle speed. I did it with a 16/18 WI dual sprocket and a 36 /38 on the front giving a 36:18 or 38:16. Same number of teeth. I was using a WI eccentric rear axle. It works.

Had it on my peregrine back in 2007, worked very well but still a bit of a faff in use and as I had been riding ss since the mid 90’s my legs were strong enough to deal with the hills on a single ratio, and for the flats I was happy to spin away and admire the scenery. Stunning bit of bling though and I loved the WI freewheel sound.

I did it cheaply years ago as I was using my SS for both MTB and commuting. 34-18 and 36-16 IIRC just using an extra chainring and sprocket.

Don't bother. The time saved over a 26 mile commute was probably less time than swapping ratios took. It felt more comfortable / more effort but adding ~10% to the top speed doesn't take anywhere near 10% off the overall time.
