there must be alternatives to riding in the park to experience some good trail riding, anybody been there I'll be there in 7 days staying for about 5 days.
my working contract finishes in vancouver and would consider it rude to miss out on this MECCA be fore returning to blighty , it will be a once in a lifetime oppportunity for me.

That sounds bloody expensive TBH but you said it's a once in a lifetime opportunity, spend the money. You won't miss it when you're old.

That looks like the price of a DH bike rental, Day tickets are $65

You can get the cost down a little more by buying in advance and getting a 5 day ticket or a 4 of 6 ticket. Bike rental certainly adds a chunk to the price. How much DH have you done before? I'd be wrecked if I did 5 straight days in the park so would look at doing maybe 3 days and then a could of days of riding in the valley, outside the park. There's some sweet enduro (or just XC as they call it here) trails which are well worth a couple of days riding.

Trail Forks has most of the trails in and out of the bike park on. My personal favourites outside the park would be Westside (Pura Vida, Cheap Thrills, Danimal etc), Whistler South (Business Time, AM/PM, Tunnel Vision) and Whistler North (Howler, Shit Happens).

i prefer more like whatever else a trail can provide other than strictly DH. the trail forks site seems to have heaps of info on the area thanks 'whatnobeer'. Outside the park is my main option for biking there, will be avoiding using that park if its possible. I'd make an healthy contribution at the end to the upkeep of the trails but want to see what there with my eyes

No problem. The trails really are top notch, and mostly in good condition, thought getting a little dry and blown out on some of them. Trailforks has condition reports there too. If you want to contribute to trail up keep a WORCA membership is $50 and they maintain the trails. You can then also enter the Toonie rides (short fun 'xc' race every Thursday, with free beer and food), the Phat Wednesday DH events ($5) and the Monday night guided rides ($2, free beer + guiding).

I don't know what bike you have but you definitely want something you can pedal uphill. 140-160mm would be ideal for the majority of the valley riding.

will be renting a ride i think, a rocky (full suss) mountain option would suffice, I have Montague X70 hardtail fold away mtb for use while working on the ships a great space saver for the small cabin space, good for road and gravel tracks.
Packed it and booked it........

I think we spent about 10 days there on honeymoon, stayed at the bear back chalet which was great. Think we got a 3 day pass for the park, spent two days in it and the 3rd we just used the pass to get further up the mountain and over the peak to peak gondola. All other days we rode the valley trails. Bike hire is expensive.

Think you are a bit out on your pricing?

Me personally, I would ride the valley trails in the morning, then pop into the park later, pick up a sampler ticket for $32 (3 run pass), go up the Fitz lift, and see if there is a lifty scanning passes on the Garbo lift, if not, i'd hop on that and do a couple of runs up in the Garbo zone, then go a bit lower.

They are meant to scan you on the second lift, but more often than not, they didn't seem to(may be different this year).

The valley trails are great. If you buy the WORCA App for you phone you use it to locate trails (need data roaming though).

Particulary enjoyed Rockwork/Korova/Wizards ๐Ÿ™‚

All RFID passes this year, so you need to scan to get through the barriers and there's ticket validators on top of that. The days of sneaky riding are over.
