*bumps* I am convincing myself I need one...second lock and for touring

this seems good value but not the lightest

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kryptonite-Evolution-Mini-Unisex-Bicycle/dp/B004C94T84/ref=sr_1_18?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1325618807&sr=1-18

this is very dinky but probs too small and not light

http://www.amazon.co.uk/MOTORCYCLE-HD-MINI-SHACKLE-LOCK/dp/B000R57XDK/ref=sr_1_78?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1325618862&sr=1-78

compact buy heavy and pricey

Any opinions on the above?

i would highly recommend a mini dlock such as the krypto mini.

theres a cheaper alternative though which is the bulldog mini which is almost the same

i think they are great value and locks and they do a 16.8mm version which is very heavy but solid performer.

amazon is good for the bulldog locks and parker international has good prices on the krypto locks.

the mini locks are almost 1kg so not light but anything less i.e. a cable lock could probably defeated in less than 30 secs.

mini locks can also be hard to find a place to lock too though, good a secondary to a main lock for wheels and forks etc

A decent quality padlock and put it thru the chainring. It is only a very minor deterrent tho. I either use a proper lock - a 3 kg d lock or I don't let the bike out of my sight

Abus do a much lighter mini-D than Krypto, but I forget the name.

hmm the abus lock looks good, no experience myself but i cant see how the 16mm abus mini above can be lighter than a 13mm krypto mini 5 which is roughly the same size.
i know a mini 5 is sub 1kg i have one.

maybe the description is incorrect on the abus?

EDIT
tut tut abus, taken from a user comment

Note: The Lock shackle is 16mm (with rubber sheath), but actually 13mm without.
