I want something soft which can be worn all day, hopefully breathable. Any recommendations? A quick look on CC and there are some promising looking troy lee ones or 661 veggie.
None. Seems like your name is a bit of a misnomer too.
Soft? POC then.

I've been wearing POC knee pads since a knee injury last year. They're comfortable for long rides.
In terms of bretahability they're ok but not terribly perforated.
661 Veggie are quite bulky, mine really don't fit well, and are horrible to pedal in.
I have the Troy Lee Lopes that the hard plastic velcros into, I use the neoprene knee bits on their own for xc duties. Last time I didn't I came off and cut my knee :-(.
Lots of folk like the 661 Kyle Straits too.
Having damaged my knees a couple of times this year I finally decided I needed some pads - when I could cycle OK but was struggling at work I had to do something. I opted for the 661 Kyle Slim pads and have used them for the last 6/7 rides. The fit round the leg is good and they don't move once fastened - the cup fits nicely round the knee cap and I very quickly got used to having them on - they do not seem restrictive but you do know they are there. Your knees get ****ing hot though!! Have worn them for 30 mile rides so enduros should be OK - - Oh and I can vouch for the protection too - my knee was swollen but the tissue paper/scar tissue skin unbroken ๐
I got some IXS hack pads, not restrictive but not very breathable, not bulky though. Can't comment on how good they are at taking hits because i haven't come off whilst wearing them!
A quick edit, cheers wwaswas
none. I think the only time I'd wear them is for knee warming duties, though to be honest, my riding isn't heroic enough to warrant knee pads!

haven't done that either ๐
the edit button is a bit of a two edged sword ๐
The final straw was the front tyre rolling off on my last ride which removed a fair bit of skin off my knee. Not too painful at the time but takes a week while to heal and trousers always rub making it take longer, I'd just rather avoid that. So just need a skin saver really...

I've seen the kyle straits as a few friends have them, but they look pretty big and bulky.
Thanks for comments so far
I've only recently started wearing knee pads and was initially put off when trying them on by the size and bulk of most of them, felt they would be too restrictive (eventually got the 661 kyle straits as they were amongst the cheapest and if i didnt like it wouldnt be too big a waste of money). Since then i've found them to be good once on, i dont forget im wearing them but they are comfortable and ive had a couple of 4 hour rides in them and not had any issues.
Actually feels a bit weird now when i've ridden without wearing them not just in terms of confidence but like i have less support!
I have a pair of Race Face Dig pads which are similar to the Kyle Straits.
Only had them for 2 rides but did bash my knee on one of them. Felt nowt.
They stay put, are comfy enough, bit warm though.
ditto Obi_Twa
but they look pretty big and bulky
...but the 661 Slim Knee a.k.a. Kyle Straits don't feel big and bulky.
On my second pair and regularly do 25 - 30 mile rides.
Also protect well as I Supermanned after my front wheel decided to Pringle ๐
