What with the group buy for Hope lights currently being sorted I thought maybe a thread to help guide those who know very little or have not used a Hope light before.

The current list from Hope is as follows but what is best for
1) After work 2-4 hour XC riding in woods/forest
2) 12/24 Hour events such as MM, SITS etc.
3) General road riding
and do you need a helmet light(LED1)to compliment the bar mounts?

LED1
LED1 Adventure (Head Strap)
LED2
LED2 Endurance (2 batteries)
LED4
LED4 Endurance (2 batteres)

Ive just got a vision 2 epic, mounted on my helmet and im very impressed with the build quality. The light itself is very bright and is ideal for my type of riding, woody singletrack and pounding the southdowns. Cant reccomend it enough.

LED 4

you can use it on low if thats all the light you need then you can use the daylight setting if required.

But I would have a good look at Trouts (off this forum) lights first more bang for yer buck, or the deal extreme P7 bike light at £52 posted

Only 3 posts till trouts 'homemade' lights were mentioned even after the user specified he wanted Hopes. Standards round here are seriously slipping...

I use the Hope II for nights, Easy to use. simple to charge and put on bike, and plenty charge for a night at STS/MM with the endurance battery.
General road riding: - NO ONE needs a all singing dancing £200 light from Hope for riding on the road. A hope Vision 1 is enough to see the road, although i would attach flashing white LED (knog or similar) or two to improve the 'be seen' factor. Blacburn mars rear lights are the nuts ime, and the best rear to get seen with

LED 4 on the bars LED 2 on the lid. Only use the helmet light on techy ST or fast descents & the bar mount toggles between numbers 2 & 3 settings.

Standards aren't slipping, trout offers the best output for 200 quid, everyone knows that. The only reason not to buy is (if like me) you cant justify spending that sort of cash on a bike light.

I think you do need a bright light fo road riding.
Ny cimmute is on unlit roads and a 30 mph + on cr@ppy lumpy roads I need o see just a smuch as when I am on amtb on rough terrain but going (usually) much slower.
I know nothing about Hope as I have a Trout so will leave others to advise as to best actual product for you BUT
Brighter lamps can be turned down (assume true for Hopes?) for lit roads /slow climbs where you dont need it to be ultra bright etc
Bigger batteries last longer and need charging less often but weigh more.

I just use one ,on my head for MTB and on bars for road, with 700+ lumens no idea why you would want/need more than one light.

I've just bought the Vision 2 x2 batteries from Richard. Mounted on the bars they are good enough but i'm gonna add a helmet light for those moments when your bars are facing the wrong way...

Anybody bought a Lenser P7 from Amazon?

I've got the Hope 4 on the bars and a Mi Newt on the helmet. Perfect for our Tuesday night rides and 24 hour events.
A lot of money for lights, but gives me the incentive to ride in any conditions. Used them throughout last autumn/winter with no problems.
