Starting a new job in a few months which gives me friday afternoons off :). Its a 25 mile return journey ( I can get a lift in on the friday with my bike) but would like to use some tech to keep me on the right lines.
Any suggestions on GPS devices + software to help me plan a route at home and then upload it to the device?
200, 500 and 800(edit doh put 500) Garmins seed obvious, did look at decathlons versions (but reviews werent good) - welcome to suggestions
Thanks
Mark
For navigation I would go for an 800/810. It is so easy to follow the OS on my 800.
Secondhand 705 if you want a bargin I would think.
800 garmin has turn by turn navigation which is great on the road.
edge 200 here.
it's great for following a pre-planned route (i use mapmyride); the simple black-and-white screen is a little basic; but it works; and it's easy to 'read' with only a quick glance.
But it's not a sat-nav. There's no built-in 'navigate to' function.
(which would be nice, but i'll get over it)
Garmin touring for built in satnav functions.
Thanks everyone - looks like Garmin are the only ones to consider.
Thanks for the vote for the 200 edge ahwiles - the cost looks very tempting for the friday afternoon ride home ๐
Just to mention also that the Garmin Connect website, which allows you to create a route and then upload it to your device, is very good assuming you are planning road rides. I don't know if it works with off road rides.
love my oregon 400t, bit chunkier but easy to download to/from and indestructible!
Garmin edge 605 or 705 2nd hand for a bargain - both do turn by turn navigation on maps (which you can get for free from internet - LEGALLY!!)
I had the Edge 200 and it was OK.
However, l changed it for an Edge 500 and l have to say, for the small extra cost it is well worth while over the 200.
On the 500 the screen is fully user programmable, you can use a HRM, it has a barometric altimeter, you can display the time on the main screen, and it can be set to update the GPS every second, which makes it more more accurate.
