Looking for a chainring to use with 1/8" chain 104 PCD cranks, which is the better option, Velo Solo Alloy or On One stainless, or are there any other options for about £25 ? Ideally I could do with a slightly inwardly dished type to sort out a slightly wide chain line.
Please?
Surly stainless steel seems to last pretty well for me.
Why not use a shorter BB, eg 110mm or thereabout?
I've bent a couple of Surly stainless rings in the past so i'm trying out the On One stainless ring ATM.
Seems to be lasting well and the thickness/shape of it should stop it bending like the Surly's did.
I think the Surlys are slightly thicker now. I usually get a year out of them, but that includes the 'Puffer and a few other similar but warmer races. Haven't managed to bend them even though I have managed to twist a BB, warp a crank, and rip the heads of the nipples of the back wheel on different occasions while using them.
There's no doubt the On-One SS rings are much nicer though and I've just noticed the price is better too, so my recommendation changes to On-One 🙂
