Meeting some mates at Mabie in a couple of weeks so I want to stay nearby the night before. A hostel would be ideal but it seems to be a bit of a desert in that respect. Any ideas?

try this place, take your own food and make sure you make full use of the hot tub and sauna.
its spot on, we've stayed a couple of times and used it as a base for the Dumfires 7 stanes, you can either camp or use the bunk

The Mabie house hotel does "pods" I thin they are 35 quid for the night and sleep four.
