The best range of chainrings?

I'm trying to find a 38 and 28 (or maybe 26) toothed chainring, to go together in a compact chainset for xc riding. Cant find a manufacturer that does these sizes. Looked into TA and Middleburn, they look nice, but not the right sizes. Needs to be 4 arm, to fit shimano cranks.

just to clarify, are you after a 38T in the middle or outer position and a 26T in the inner position on a 104/64 BCD 4 arm, 3 ring chainset?

Both 26T (64mm) and 38T (104mm) are available from Middleburn.

also, 38T is available in unramped Downhill ring from BETD

I only want 2 chainrings, and I so the 38T will be in the outer, and the 28T in the middle, with nothing in the inner position.

The smallest middle ring that will fit a 104mm BCD chainset is 30T and is made by Extralite

as you can see, any smaller diameter and it wont mount outside of the BCD

And I know that middleburn do the 26 and 38, but I cant find a dealer that will actually supply them - can you contact middleburn and buy them direct? Or will they just tell me to talk to their dealers?

Other options are a 29/40 Middlburn Duo set up (you'll need middleburn arms)

You can contact them directly, but remember the 26 is an inner not a middle ring.

Mark Anthony cycles will order them for you (they dont hold lots of stock)

Yes contact Middleburn directly and they will give you the part numbers, then order it through one of their dealers, when I did the same thing they directed me here to buy the ring I needed.

Just contacted middleburn, the guy was very helpful, and recommended me to rjcx-treme as well.

Just out of curiosity, what would the middleburn duo with crankarms cost?

edit: Just found out

RS8 is lighter than RS7.
Its all on their website.
RS8 arent warrantied for all types of riding.

You can run ISIS or Square Taper and will need to buy a new bottom bracket. 113mm axle and whatever shell width your frame needs.

Lots of second generation ISIS BBs out now that are holding up better than the old ones.
Shimano UN54 keeping up the affordable SqT end with pretty reliable units at £15 ish. Royce and Phil Woods at the bling end (£100+)

RS7's are the do-it-all crank arm and are guarenteed even for downhilling and freeriding, whereas the RS8's are lighter, and not guarenteed for such foolishness!

Do you need ISIS? No, you can use square taper as well, but obviously not with the same crank arms, you'd need the correct set.

Deore Hollowtech (1 presumably) actually uses a propriatery bottom bracket called Octalink and is not compatible with Middleburn rank arms.
