I have a whole day to kill. I'll be using public transport, Liverpool being my starting point. The way I see it my options are limited to:

1. Llandegla (train to Cefn-y-Bedd and road ride to the trails)

2. Delamere (shorter train journey directly to forest)?

3. Local dog-walker infested routes on the Wirral.

Any other ideas?

Not difficult to get to the Peak District from Liverpool is it? If you can get a train to Picadilly then train to Chinley/Edale/Hope/Hathersage, it'd be pretty easy.

Delamere has been really busy with groups of walkers, mostly families every weekend since Christmas, probably working off those extra pounds gained the last few weeks.

Nice and quiet during the week though.

Sorry didn't see your reply. Plenty of stuff around, get up to Hollins Cross or Hope Cross to start with, then make your mind up on what you want to do. Most trails centre around Edale or Hope anyway, pop into 18 bikes in Hope for some advice, think they might have some maps too.

Ive only got public transport from manchester for rides, its a right royal guff.. so my 10ps worth:

Get to hope, go straight up past Harrop farm onto the Roman road and just after Hope Cross you could do 'the Beast' (to the right towards the trees) or Blackley Hey (my choice, which is straight on).
Either way get down to Snake Pass road and cross onto the tarmac climb, if you did the beast then go left up the road 500m and turn right to climb past Rowlee farm. Nr Hagg farm where the path forks go left towards the descent through nabs wood down to Derwent Reservoir - this is the best bit!
Go right, and follow the road past the reserviors you can stop for a cup of tea on the way! Find the carpark with a steep climb up Hagg side to then turn right to find the descend past hagg farm - short but twisty and sweet. cross the road again, drop down and then make your way back, i just push up the beast here to then retrace your steps back along the roman road with the cracking descent you initially climbed.

Hope this makes sense with a map, Its my favourite route round here. usually about 2,1/2hrs sweaty mess or 3,1/2hrs lesiurely!
