Where can I get 165...

[Closed] Where can I get 165mm cranks that aren't more expensive than my frame?

I've got a XS Fire Mountain that I'm doing up for my son. I need some 165mm cranks for it, but they seem very expensive to me.
I'm after spare taper or external, 1, 2 or 3 rings in an easily replacable bolt spacing.
Is there anything out there for less than £50? I can't find much...

Thanks for any help!

I just got some square taper 155 mm for my SiL. £50 ish I think from SJS cycles. They've got various size options including, I would imagine, 165 mm. Nothing fancy and they're pretty weighty but they tick all the boxes.

Thanks folks. Both options look good.
Those SPA ones are probably a bit lighter than the Thorn ones would you think?

if you're going square taper, you can go shorter than 165...

(inside-leg divided by 5, as a rough guide. My 5foot wife uses 140's)

Alivio T4060 from CRC, external cups/hollow BB axle, not too heavy if converting to single ring... £40 and sell the rings on ebay. Just be warned - it's not a looker!

Not sure if 152mm is too short? Cranks are fine, chain rings are heavy, ideal for a 1x conversion.

Thicker pedals

Pedal thickness doesn't affect the 'throw' of the cranks.

XT double in 165 without BB are £77 at CRC. JAN17 for another 10 off probably.
More than 50 but bloody cheap.

@downshift - I'm not sure if those rings are removable. I think the rings are rivet on. Also may have an odd BCD

what length are your son's legs? you might find 165 could be too long.

@nre - What's the BCD? Is it 104?

Yep std 104, have superstar 30t Nw rings on our girls bikes (there's a previous thread or 2 on them)...

You'll need a chain for it to work TBH

Just bought a set of these for my fat bike. 162mm long, square taper, 4 bolt - lighter than the Suntour cranks they replaced - fitted a Renthal narrow-wide chainring and sold the bashguard on for a tenner 🙂
