[Closed] When the desire to ride is more than the group you ride with?

As title, been riding with current buddies for a while and one by one they've stopped riding. So now its down to me who wants to ride lots and a couple of others with famliy commitments. So find myself riding more and more by myself.

Solo riding is ok but there is no challenge in raceing yourself to the top or the bottom.

So how to find people to ride with?

Where do you live? Might be some lonely STWer looking for riding buddies too. Other than that, a Facebook group or Twitter might be good for hooking up with other locals.

Get yourself on the Facebook page - STW Bikers. Always rides posted up on there. We were out last week. Different people to ride with all the time. You may even get to meet Hora

Where are you based?

Chepstow you say. Well, there's a chap I ride with called Pete who lives in Mathern. Plenty of rides in the FoD from chaps in Ross. Or try a Wednesday night from the bridge in Monmouth. 6.30pm start. I'm a Monmouth local.

There's also a shop ride from outside 559 bikes in Chepstow, I think it's the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month.

May not be the race event you're looking for, though...

Same for me. For company I joined an MTB club, and for challenges I bought a Garmin to encourage myself to go faster... and so that I could keep up with the MTB club! I'm also just going to investigate that FB STW thing which I didn't know about. I also like riding on my own which helps.

Surely racing yourself is the biggest challenge there is?

I love riding on my own, can ride where and as fast as you want... Saying that there's nothing like having a good craic with your mates on a ride out, the riding kind of takes second place then to all the banter..

I'm the same, all my friends are dead (ride trials) or slaves to the pub now. I don't mind riding on my own, as Jackal said, you can go and do what you want, but sometimes it's nice to have a bit of company. I find that I talk to myself in a ridiculous French accent when I ride long distances on my tod, which can't be good.

What's all this about facebook?

Talk to the guys in your LBS see if there is group ride anywhere? Try heading to some events and see who else is there.

If not head to the Wanted section of the classifieds. Make sure to specify minimum radness required

Tour the FoD one evening. A group rides from the bird reserve at Parkend at least once a week. At least one group goes from the cycle centre and 1 goes from the Tufthorn at Milkwall on a Weds at 7.30

Stick up a thread asking if anyone in your area wants to go for a mtb ride. I spent years riding about on my own or with one other mate, now due to a thread on STW I ride with a bunch of like minded others.

Your in an area that boasts good riding. You could offer to show others some routes - that would get them interested.

I'm in The Valley, so PM me if you fancy a ride with a slow old bloke.

We often have friendly group rides starting from Tintern or we head out to the Black mountains, The FOD or the Mendips etc.

I miss riding in a group, but to be honest, after my mates dropped off one by one, I've become used to riding alone. It's a bit of a pain when you revert to riding in a group occassionally since there is sooo much faffing and waiting around!

Both have pros and cons. Get yourself a dog - great company on a bike ride.
