What's the fastest road tyre for a 26" rim like a XC317? The hardtail is currently being pressed into commuter duties.

Lovin' my new job ๐Ÿ™‚

Wheels on the Sutra need re-built. If I put my XC317s on it in the mean time, does it become a 650? ๐Ÿ˜€

I've got some 1 inch richey tom slicks that are like shit of a teflon coated shovel. Amazingly quick really, I run them at 100psi mind.

I've got some heavy old Nimbus 1.5" running at 80 psi at the moment, so looking to improve over them.

I've used conti 1" numbers, as fast as road tres. Lighter will be faster but more fragile.

Doubt you'll find anything quicker than the 1" slicks out there. Conti Grand Prix is another to consider. It's what I've got on mine.

Another vote for the Conti. Grand Prix 1" is the puppy.

The old Conti 1" is fast [and hard] but not the most robust tyre if you happen to ride rural roads.
The 2009 version is a different beast altogether.Chilli compound, fatter and beefier construction.Still fast enough too.Should be good for winter too.

I replaced my crusty old 90s 1.5 Nimbus with 1.2 Specialized Fatboy. Big thumbs up, much quicker and surprisingly grippy in the dry

Spesh fatboys are cool tyres - i used to run them for commuting around London. They were brilliant.

I used to have continental 1" slicks which were good but after they wore out have swapped to some 1.5" schwalbe city jets which I actually prefer. That extra bit of volume on a rigid bike makes the commute more comfortable which I had not realised I would appreciate so much.
