I have an old Fenix L2D (100 lumen?) bought when that was considered state-of-the-art. I assume that things have moved on a bit? Looking for something to use for a bit of a backup night-riding light and for when re-charging of battery packs isn't available. Usual conflicting requirement of searingly bright illumination and infinite run-time.
No dynamo suggestions please - I'm already looking into that option ๐
Isn't it good enough?
A light using CR123 cells might be a better option as they are shorter, tend to have longer runtimes and have higher outputs.
I've got a Fenix PD20 which is compact and bright but things have moved on since I got that with new XML based lights.
There are loads of XML/CR123 based lights. I've bought the unbranded chinese ebay ones in the past but all have stopped working or have problems. I'd look at the likes of Fenix, Olight, Foursevens etc.
The Olight S10 and S20 Baton both look good options. If you really want AA the Olight S15 is single or 2xAA (it comes with an extension tube).

Maybe Al. Just interested to see if things have got a bit more efficient really.
neninja - has to be AAs as these are readily available in shops all over the place. CR123s are a good bit more difficult to find in out of the way locations.
Not using rechargeables?
Not when there's nowhere to recharge them ๐
Sounds like you need one of those dynohub recharger thingmies, seeing as you're looking to spend money ๐
