For someone who will set it up once and then just ride.......like a bit of a pleb. Is it worth paying the extra?
Ridden both. Can't tell
Th real difference is that the RCT3 has 2 modes (pedal and lock) that you will never use.
And for someone who just sets and rides how about the dual position?
I hear they are more linear but will I really notice?
Had both. Very much the same performance.
Can't remember if I read that DP are supposed to be a bit less plush. They are not massively progressive anyway.
I got rct3 as at the time it was all that was available. My feeling is that you pretty much run th fully open all the time. Only time you would lock would be long fire road climb etc. the middle setting has too much damping for riding trails. If it's left in that position accidentally it feels rubbish.
Love the pikes tho.
I've got a set of rct3's and a mate has the RC's.
The 'lockout' mode on the rct3's is useful when going up a long fireroad/road climb, but you can achieve the same effect with the RC's just by winding on all the low speed compression damping, and then winding it back to wherever you normally set it to.
If I were buying again I'd save some cash and just get the RC model.
Where is the best place to buy the RC model? Need some 150's to replace my 140mm forks
As far as I know you can't put the tokens in the dual positions ? If that matters to you. Recently put some pikes on instead of old coil lyriks, what a difference. But trying a token in it at the mo so it ramps up a bit more.
I think the RC version is OEM only and not normally available to purchase aftermarket.
RC only has Rebound and Compression, but does not have 3 threshold levels, see. R C T-3.
Tokens are supposedly available for DPA pikes but I haven't tried to get any as I like a nice linear fork. Probably helps that I'm an average sized bloke, about 70Kg. Wanting a steeply rising rate is alien to me, the whole downside to air springs was their progressive nature then when they get almost as linear as a coil the magazine reviews want tokens to make them rising rate again.
Ok, thanks all.....I need to read up on these "Tokens" ๐ณ

Initially no but..
https://www.sram.com/rockshox/technologies/bottomless-tokens
Dark red bottomless tokens are compatible with the following Dual Position Air forks:
Pike, Lyrik, Yari.
Ok so "bigger" (ok ok heavy) would add these to stiffen up the fork through its final phase of travel??
Merlin are selling the RC for 400
That's the dual position air though,
Alltricks for the RC
Was OEM but I believe later got a full retail release. Some OEM versions may come with a gloss paint job and stickers for decals. Makes naff all difference to how it rides and the things will get scratched anyway (mine got a nice scar from a small off in the first ride - black touch up paint to the rescue ๐ ).

Still OE only (at least here in the UK - they might have released them in other countries I guess). All OE and aftermarket forks come in gloss black if you want them that way, and all of them use stickers for decals.

Shame coil conversions for Pikes are a bit limited at the moment. Seen one aftermarket kit from a place in France, otherwise it looks like bodging Lyrik parts

Thats down to the nature of air springs vs. coils though, air springs work better when not linear. Don't forget most coil shocks also have an air spring in them that makes them ramp up at the end so even they are not linear, you just probably never noticed it.

Say what now? Never heard of it before, are you thinking of IFPs and charged bladders?
hi ive been reading with intrest as i have pike rc dual position on my devinci troy
up tweed valleywhen doing the local off piste enduro trails i run them in low position and charger fully closed which works well . when descending i open both up and run 4 click on the charger .
im pretty happy with them to be honest but after reading this am i correct in saying heavier riders will benefit from fitting tokens\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\/
im 14 14 stone so thinking of trying the botomless tokens out . thanks

Thats right, the IFP works as a secondary spring in a coil shock, giving some progression at the end stroke. Its not huge, but its a useful little added progression at the very end of the stroke to prevent bottom out. most shocks with bottom out adjustment are actually taking about either manually changing the IFP pressure, or sometimes its a dial that is reducing the IFP volume.
